I agree with post #9. Do you have a merc manual? It would really help you to understand how the fuel management system works.
Technicians Guide:

CDI Ignition Troubleshooting Manual:

That stuff should point you in the right direction for almost any repair...
It absolutely could make it flood with trash in it. But while sitting it "should" not have flow into it. Unless maybe you fuel system isn't venting properly and its putting pressure into the system.
Remove the VST vent line next time it wont start and see if it have gas. In the drivew squeeze the bulb and see if it pushes past the needle and floods out the vent.
Something it getting heat soaked while you sit and drink beer.... I mean fish.... Either on the fuel system. Or the ignition. What's fuel pressure when it wont start? Trash in the VST?
And you need to find a technician not a parts changer.....
I checked the vast tank , all looked ok. Carried boat out fishing sat morning. Same thing ran great to fishing spot fished for an hour. No start, flooded , alot of smoke. I checked overflow lines at this time, no fuel coming out of overflow. Fished back to truck.
Found a guy in New Bern, said he's worked on mercury's for 40 years. They're not merc dealer and no software for mercury, but he wanted to look at it. He said he's seen it all and if he couldn't fix it , he would charge me anything. That's better than all the other places .. so far
Yep, no fix no charge,, worth a shot
Vst tank and he wouldn't charge if he can't fix. Smart phone ???. Need to proof read better too
Still waiting to hear from mechanic, must be stumped
I'm with Rock on this i believe you have a bad coolant temp sensor, motor say at 150 degrees and coolant temp sensor only reading like 60 degrees and it will dump extra fuel to and make motor run rich.. I did not see in any of post where this has been checked.
I'm not sure of anything, maybe this guy knows his stuff. Time will tell
Hey fellows, me again with update. My 40 year mercury mechanic called sat. to give update. He replayed back to me everything I've been saying all along, floods after it's been run and sits for 30 minutes or so. Yes he does see what it's doing. He has checked and rechecked everything that has already been checked and rechecked. Don't have a clue what is causing it to flood. He's checked fuel pump, diaphragm, vast, vents, checkvalves, stator, spark, fuel pressure, ecu. So, what do you do now??
