When cleaning the bore do I just use plain old muriatic acid from lowes or homedepot etc?

Yes,and please stay upwind of the vapor.It takes a while to work,try to keep it wet.
I guess it's par for the course that my engine is worse than I thought. I got the old piston out and started cleaning the cylinder with acid, that part was kinda cool to be honest, I found a scratch that I think is just bad enough to require an overbore. I can barely feel the scratch with my nail, if I needed it to get me through a weekend of racing or something I'd let it fly but even the novice machinist/builder in me says take it all apart and do it right. So as it stands I will take the next day or so and pull the powerhead and get it down to James and let him test out the new equipment he has. Maybe I'll have him massage ports a little more, hmmm...
