Hot Multi's - Pictures

After I crashed at Havasu in '70 we built another 21ft, Red & White # T-74, I drove one race, the Galveston 250 in the spring of '71. Bob disolved the race team and gave the boat to Reggie. As I told him today, he did me a favor because I would have surely killed myself. My driving style was not one of longivity.
I drove for Bob / Glastron '69 & '70. Of all the races we ran I won all but two, '69 Parker (9th), '70 Grand lake, Ohio (6th) " THAT WE WERE RUNNING AT THE END". My job was to be the first to the start line & remain first till the race was over or something broke. Destroyed 6 hulls and my back in the process !!! BUT, I would do it all over again, what a blast we had.

I always wondered why he would do that...... What had Reggie driven or done prior to that to earn that ride from Hammond?

Anyone interested in Glastron/Moly racing history should google "Glastron Re-float" and click on the link to the refloat reunion on sept 30-oct1 1995.Karen and I were there and chatted with Bob Hammond,Ernie Schmidt,Bill Gaston,Art Carlson,Mel Whitely,Dick Sherrer, and lots of other pioneers.A fun weekend.They had the original Batboat,LBJ's Glastron,etc.Even has a pic of Fielder on page 12:smiletest: Check it out. I even have a 3 page list of every one that was there,executives,employees,dealers,suppliers. Those were the days,but it sure does show my age.

I know Spencer Dunn ran this same yellow wing at Cherry Beach in September of 1971. Only made it to the first corner where he spun out and Andre Savard went over top of him. Spencer had to go back to this wing because earlier his twin engine Shulze was damaged (picture attached).
The picture of Spencer with the X-115 and GT-115 leads me to believe this may have been 1970. Don't know who #111 is, almost looks like a Kitson???

If anybody has a 1968 or 1969 Glastron brochure, I'm sure the Molinari 2+2 was pictured in the brochure.

Talked with Freddy Fincham the other day. He says he was there and he's sure that #111 was Kenny Kitson but he can't remember the year, but agreed that it was either 1969 or 1970.

I remember Kitson bringing a single engine boat of his own design to Peterborough in 1972, but 69 and 70 were a little before the time I started going to the races.

Good shot of a well balanced Molly. Was that at Bayshore ?? Gene called Lee & Marie a month or so ago. Lee just celebrated his 92 ond birthday. :eek:
The lightweight 18' Molly I took when I left Glastron would not let you ger the nose up like that for very long. Remember the race at Lake Texoma ??? After I ran over Kenneth Mann's tennis shoe, had to stop to get it off my lower unit, then I lapped the field in 12 minutes. Tommy Possey was "Pissed" to say the least. Everyone accused us of "Merc. supper engine". Plain GG stacker. If my memory serves that boat was the one we took to Lake X in March '71 for testing. Ran several engines but I fell in love with the "COw Bell". Unbelievable accellaration !!! Of course, the boat was a 270 # weakling, what else could it do ??? GG would not let us race a Cow Bell, just stackers. I put the strake modification on it and it liked to run flat. Freddie Bradshaw & I took it to Havasu in '71 and he said it was the first time he ever ran 101 MPH sideways. The strakes made it hard to set up for the right hand turn at Havasu. Louie bowmann had made me a "Trick" three blade progressive pitch prop and it would litterally fly. 101 to 105 with a fuel load. Remember though, these rocker bottom Molly's were designed to run in the low 70's We were luckey that we didn't hurt a lot more people that we did !!! But it was fun.:thumbsup:

Look at all those multi's from Galveston 1969.

Boy I sure would like to find photos of Lou Cooley's Power Cat rigged with the
4 Chryslers, I have some of it with 3 but not with 4.. Heck any photos of any
boats from this 1969 race would be welcome... Post 'em if ya got 'em!!

Go way back to a thread started by RACEMAN called "Old Kitson from the rear", and #111 is a Kitson that RACEMAN appears to have bought in 2002 and was going to restore.

We know that. John Sherlock has it now. The question is who drove it in the race in Canada. I'll check with Kitson and see if he ever ran a number 111 without a "T" or a "UU" designation. The newer APBA numbering format that eliminated the alpha designations came about in about 1970 or 71 so it might all line up.
