Need to add a little levity to Jackie'd thread---Jim
Six people, two dogs, four snowboards--it did get a little 'cozy'----but there was no extra charge---

It's all over, bride, groom and baby now winging it to Sorrento, Chaos over, peace and tranquility reigns over the Wilson household once more, tomorrow normality .
Workshop opens around eight am. Normal service will be resumed pretty damn soon. Been something of an experience, even for an old campaigner like me!
Willabee's been giving me large portions of crap about Molinari's, C6's, C9's, Berlin and my little grey cells-------hell's teeth, I was doing The European classics long before and long after Mercury and OMC, came and went! I've forgotten more about the classics than was ever written up in the comics by so called "experts".
Very few of the races had qualified reporters attending, most race reports were phoned in by mechanics or drivers wives.
There was the odd exception -----Bulman was good at it, so most of his reports were syndicated to yachting magazines. Mister Ricky owned Vapour Trails so he could print whatever paid best, not necessarily the truth or facts. A good many owner/drivers were sent huge bills from Mister Rickey for favourable reports.
Mike Butler was publicity man for Mercury for years, not saying he was biased, but of course he knew which side of his bread was buttered.
I DONT think OMC had anyone on a regular basis so they printed what seemed like a good idea on the day and the devil take the high road.
Jackie,
OMC at least when I was driving for the had excellent PR coverage. Their Director of Public Relations was Bob Lemay who had a great relationship with Tom (don't recall his last name but could find it in my scrapbook, which is on Skip Hagerman's web site) Tom was with the Milwaukee Journal. Tom would be at the Havasu, Parker & the 225's. Bob would also be at the big races. Later Jim Jost took over, but since I had retired by then I don't know how well the coverage was.
During the FONDA F1 series days, David Parkinson ran JBS who's main customer was Mercury, they did an excellent job of reporting every event and made sure the coverage was reported w/w.
Point I was really trying to make John is ------reporting power boat racing ( circuit)has never been anything but a hit and miss affair , short lived magazines like "powerboat" ------powerboat and water skiing, ( not enough sales just from race boats )----- Speed-n-spray, worked for just a short time.
Generally speaking there were very few race boat reporters, Bulman and Baverstock on our side of the pond with Guy Hummell when even I was a rookie, was left to the drivers who were actually there to report on the race. Depending on which side of the cup you drank from, the report would be lopsided one way or another.
Remember the old adage " no such thing as a free meal"--------scratch my back I'll scratch yours, still not certain whether it was OMC OR MERCURY who coined it!
Well, it's all over but the crying, ( another good name for a song don'tcha think), Back to normality,
summers just around the corner, another week and the kids are out of school and the sound of screaming kids in the pool will ring down the lane, had about ten of them in there yesterday in spite of the fact it was chucking it down.
Catch you later, bloody house looks like a florists shop, bouquets and garlands and balloons spread all over the hog market.J.
Started the day "Faster than a speeding bullet" -----finished the morning like a burnt out sparkler.
Slept for a couple or three hours after lunch and couldn't wind myself up to walk back to the workshop------don't think I'm idle, just knackered! Anyway either way, I didn't exactly set the tools on fire today!
Made the mount for the steering wheel (helm) turned up a few grab handles for the wheels, first efforts were too phalic, any self respecting sailor would have had an orgasm after five minutes at the helm, lady sailors would have fainted after five minutes holding this particular helm. I changed it slightly, removed the policemans helmet, dammit sir, you would have been drummed out of
"THE SQUADRON" ----send you a piccie tomorrow.
Had a hazy , lazy afternoon, ( another good name for a song don'tcha think), fiddle farted with the iPad and downloaded 400 pictures I took at the wedding, six of them were quite acceptable, O.K.Magazine have not been in touch.
Bore you tomorrow peeps, meanwhile get a good nights sleep and MYGGWY.J.
The day has dawned dull as ditchwater, heavy clouds on the horizon and the iPad is mightier than the workshop this morning. not exactly straining at the leash as it were to vacate the marital bed, sheets are hanging a tad this morning, a touch of lethargy has crept in. Don't think for a minute it's sexual exhaustion, Jilly was hard and fast asleep when I hit the sack last night..
I'm on the last knockings of "OFFENDED", managed to finish both helms OK without damage, so it looks like " Harsoul" will get a helm?
Thats the last of the Americas cup craft, took me a lot longer than I envisaged, got an open mind on what to do next, have a whopping wood pile, an empty head, a shop full of tools but a lack of ambition, might take a couple of days off! Take a trip to the island on my sisters Sunseeker maybe! Might go shopping with Sam, my youngest, she's always good to go, although she's taken a trip to Turkey today.
Had a look on a couple of other threads on S and F, was gratifying to see some of the "OLD FOLKS" like Bakos and Gene Langham getting head to head, suddenly I feel much better.!!,
,
"OFFENDED " has about 20 crew up to now, all of them are old farts, if you want your name up there on the sail, there will be a lot left out I know, but there's enough room for everyone
Pilgrim, don mac, and anyone wishing to have his name on the boat, let me know, like today would be nice. Piccies later.
Nearly done all I'm going to do on the "OFFENDED", still needs its legs and full list of names.

Thats a a huge piece of kit which cluttered up the workshop, so it had to be relegated to the studio.
Anyone care to fill me in on what happened to the wing in Valleyfield!
I saw pictures of it submerged upside down, was it holed, did it flip?
They don't normally run all that quick at display meetings and the work involved after a dunking is horrendous!
i suddenly have a vested interest since I made so many of the damned things.
Jilly went to the theatre in Chichester tonight, so I just put my feet up , a large CC seven , switched on the TV and promptly fell asleep.
Lets see what tomorrow brings, sleep well my friends, MYGGWY.J.
I don't understand French, Jackie----I will try to get more information from Ted----

Thanks Gene, the caption doesn't say a lot, just that at the start of the exhibition there was a "Misadventure" and the boat submerged, the owner/driver was Ted Boyd and it's a vintage boat from the 1970's, an outboard "Switzer-Wing".
Jesus wept, don't the time fly when your having fun, Wednesday already, no sign of slowing down on that helper skelter we call life. I should be celebrating, not bemoaning the fact that life is rushing by like a bloody express train, I have to get off and smell the roses while I still got time!
Nothing positive to look forward to, but I'm cock sure certain something will turn up to test the the little grey cells. Keep looking in occasionally, something's bound to happen To whet your appetite.

Kevin Boyd English translation of the article from what I could get:
: " The water began to pass over the back of the boat during the long wait and my two pumps did not work for a reason which I ignored. " - Ted Boyd, owner and pilot of the black boat which sank. This early(anticipated) glorious feat was fast transformed into nightmare for Ted Boyd, the driver of the impressive boat speedboat of the group " Switzer Wings and Vintage race boats ". Instead of dashing on the streams of the bay(berry) Saint François, "Thundeball" sank straight to the bottom where it was tied up in the campivallensienne marina. This misadventure will find itself among the biggest " fails " of the history of the motorboat racing event, like the dirigible " Fido " which had settled in a panic from the point of view of water in the years ' 90. This letdown made several laugh
This letdown made several laugh and the concerned main organizer preferred to laugh at it on the page Facebook of the marine group after the incident. " I had the honor to be able to make tours(towers, ballots) of exhibition in Regatta of Valleyfield before finale of the class Formula 1. Unfortunately, here is how it began and finished. How be this photo ", he had to mean under a picture showing the black boat at the bottom of the water, both pontoons were clocked(pointed, stuck) towards the sky. The pilot(driver), Ted Boyd, indicated that the damage in the hull and in the engine is small. " Everything was dried up and I always plan to be present in Chicago for the meeting of the group Switzer this weekend ", he was delighted. The resident of Newmarket ( Ontario) indicated that his corks were nevertheless sealed well and that
The resident of Newmarket ( Ontario) indicated that his corks were nevertheless sealed well and that the water rather began infiltrating into the boat in the back. He attributed this failure in the long run wait to which he was subjected before running on the bay(berry). " It is a real race boat, based very low. The water must have begun to pass over the back of the boat during the time(weather) when I waited. The boat is provided with two pumps to pull the water but for a reason which I cannot explain, they did not work. It is probably the first boat of the kind(genre) to be poured in 40 years ", is upset Ted Boyd.
In his 3rd consecutive presence in Regatta of Valleyfield and his first one with its boat which several compared with the racing car of Batman, the Ontarian considers good to return next year to be forgiven. " I want to recover and to give a show because the fans deserve it. It is incredible the passion which this community feels for the motorboat racing sport. Thanks to all people in Regatta of Valleyfield for their support ", he expressed. The leading boat " Switzer Wing ", which fed the conversations until his sad fate, the last weekend, is 20 feet in length, weighs 1800 (pounds) and its construction goes back up in 1970. The boat is provided with two machines of 99 cubic inch which develop 150 horsepowers each and the top speed amounts to approximately 90 miles an hour (145 kph). His owner of origin took part in races from 1971 till 1973, mainly in Ottawa and in the region of Quebec. There would be only 3 similar boats which wet plans of water in North America. Ted Boyd participates annually in 5 "Vintage" events in Canada and in the United States.
Gene, many thanks for the translation, only the French could make a simple explanation so bloody complicated. They are still pissed at us since aviation language was made "English"---between the Americans and the French, the English language is being mutilated at an alarming rate of knots.
Reminds me of the time I was working down in Nice for the mouse, on a film called "CONDOR MAN", my job was to keep all the boats seaworthy,( 2 Formula one Hodges and six instigator squirts) plus do the stand in for Michael Crawford ( Condor Man). After one non stop 48 hour stretch I overslept, the crew decided to launch the boats, when I arrived, both F1 boats were lying in 20' of crystal clear Med water, they forgot to put the drain plugs in, we were already two million over budget!, thirty actors and entourage had to wait for me to dry the boats out. April 1980.
Sod my old britches if it's not already Thursday again!
Did it again, fell asleep over the iPad, woke at 1AM, dribbling on "Hot Singles".
Willabee would not be best pleased!
will take a cursory glance at the car boot sale at Ford Airfield this morning, just to see if I can purchase some more stuff I don't really want anyway to join all the rest of the junk I was foolish enough to buy on previous visits.
Does any one else out there suffer from the same "Abnormality" ? Time I was "Up and away",
