That 5 valve yamaha head design is 40 years old already. I had them on an 85 maxim X 700 then an 86 FZX 700 S. The carbs were aimed straight down and the motors were leaned forward at 45 degreees. Then they were on the FZ 750 and FZ 1000-the entire 5 valve line up was called Genesis. The exhaust servo was the next year. Yamaha has always been the ground breakers in new technology and bringing new product to the market. They came out with the 1st 4 stroke motor crosser, first 4 stroke snowmobile, first side by side, etc. etc.
