Now that looks mighty fine!
Thank you sir. Unreal how many hours it takes to get to this point. I had a few small spots where the gel was a little thin, it’s hard to tell until you start sanding through the orange peel. I taped off those areas and blended more gel. The gel/duratec combo obviously makes the gel much thinner, almost translucent. If I’m crazy enough to gel the top of the boat my coats will be much thicker and probably more coats. I learned a lot on the bottom so far. I’m guessing a solid color like I’m going with is even harder to deal with it shows everything. I would think a metal flake added to the color would help break up any minute imperfections.
The side of the boat I buffed to this point in the pic I took to 1000 grit and then the 3m compound. It took a lot of buffing to get out the fine scratches. I’m taking the rest to 1500 grit before buffing. I’m on the home stretch now on the bottom then flip this baby and start again. Hopefully the mistakes I made and what I know now will make the top go a little smoother.
