...no, did not mean to imply that you did the design on the M650. Dave Kusche/Art Miller might have though. don't know...
[QUOTE=bernie;3366307]Does it sweep the floor at the end of the shift? Maybe there is no shift end for a robot -[/QUOTE
I don't know - It might resent a human being in it's space and give you a quick crunch!!
At Boeing, we found that the investment in robot technology was a fraction of what long term employee healthcare costs were (bad backs, injuries, etc). The jobs didn't disappear either, they just changed (software writers, maintenance techs, etc). Productivity / yield went up.
I spent 6 months in QC in Merc Die Casting - hated every minute of it. Before you picked anything up you spit on it to make sure it was cool to touch. Had a neighbor ran a big die cast machine for 40 years - he made driveshaft housings - had something about his technique that gave the finish they needed, no cold flow, porosity, etc. Hot fricken job, almost as bad as heat treat in the summer.
Yeah..........."technique" is hard to document or replicate. The "accountants" and HR people do not have a clue about "knowledge transfer"..............
Reminded me of a dealer meeting I worked - OMC was there with a lost foam of a new 4 cylinder block. One of the Merc higher ups made a comment "boy, we should get our hands on that!" The area tech rep heard him, and when we were all packing up after the show, he managed to keep an eye on the box that block was in and switched it to our pile of stuff. Espionage was alive and well in the marine business!
