Formula V races in Canada

Lastly... you basically have until the TORC Swap Meet on May 5th to get your insurance money in for Waterford. It is approximately $500. You have to talk to John Webster for the true number and pay him. This number gets divided over all your entries. 10 entries, two day race, it's $25 per driver per day (or find a sponsor to pay some or all of it. Everyone puts the sponsors name on their boat or something, or put a banner up at the race).

I'd suggest contacting him (by phone, not email) to let him know you are trying to get the money if you decide to do this.

All the important contact info for club people can be found on the TORC website and membership list.

Jim, will run an SST 60.

As with last year... jackets and sleeves are not too hard to borrow from other drivers... but pants are tough... I sold the spare pair of pants I had.

Just to clarify... FV is welcome to Waterford. I did not ask about SST60 (too big I would guess? But ask John W if you like). It sounded like both would be welcome to Beaver Lake.

How do the rules for OPC work? Can a 45 run with the 60's?

Does anyone own a Merc 90 anymore?

Just trying to think how you can fill out a field of tunnels and reduce your costs...

Andrew, the SST 60's are all the same 56 cubic inch. In FV you can run up to 60 cu. in. The SST 90 Mercury is 69 cu. in. so it would be a problem. I think the SST 60 racers would be basically testing their equipment. Jim would not care if an SST 45 was running with them. Some SST 60 racers have back-up boats that they would like to run as well. Jim has one and we have another driver that would be interested. So there is 2 boats. Cam Morley has been working on an new E Tec OMC short shaft. It would be of interest to the fans and racers. The FV boats did not show up last year. Which upset alot of people and cost some of us alot of money.

I think if you start adding them up, including back up boats... you have a pile of 60's around.

I realize this would be fun racing... and the 45's (if they would come) would treat like testing for sure. But you have to start with something... generate interest. Get your face out there.

The only issue I see with 60's or any tunnel is divers.

Andrew, You can correct me if I am wrong, but I believe there were divers available provided there was no inboard race on the same weekend. At the other races where the inboards run there is no problem. All of the SST 60 boats that would show are boats that race in APR Superleague. They are all strong runners, all have up to date safety specs.

Divers... you would have to ask an inboard group how that works.

I do know there is an inboard race Waterford weekend.

I'm not sure if there is still an inboard race Beaver Lake weekend... it may have been cancelled.

I believe the inboard dive team cost money... they are not from CBF is my understanding. But I'm not positive.

Also what is required by the insurance compnay I'm not sure... maybe just a dude with a scuba tank is good. And what is required for peace of mind to a driver and or club is a different thing too.

You'd have to talk to those involved.

Putting up a few notices at local dive shops would likely get you a few interested people... but you need one person atleast who knows what they are doing to educate these people.

Maybe you don't need the special dive rescue boat... just a quick boat to get the guy out fast (ie not the outboard resuce boat... HAHA). Then once out the outbaord resuce boat would pull up and load the driver up if injured.

You are all again welcome to the Outboard Racing Swap Meet... info on the CBF forum. All the outbaord race clubs executive and race chairmen will be there this year is my understanding.

Well just so people know, I will race if I am able to race! its hard for me to contribute with the planning and gathering of interest with people because I am in Sault Ste Marie and am on the road until the end of the hockey season. If its just SST-60 or 45 then thats cool I will probably come watch them anyways.

Count me in if you run SST 60 at Waterford. Still haven't heard what weekend it is, all I know is that it is in June. Let me know ASAP as I'm still pushing the inboard guys in Tonawanda to add us to their program. Also let me know if you need any $$.

Just a reminder spoke with John Webster last night... you have until May 5th at the Outboard Swap Meet to approach TORC (John Webster) with your insurance money in hand to get on the program with FV at Waterford on June 23-24. It's about $480 if I remember right... call John for exact amount required. I do not know if you can run a 60 in there... I guess that's for you and John to discuss. You would need divers obviously for 60's.

I believe there is interest in having you at Beaver Lake, on the the first weekend in Aug (long weekend in Canada). This may also be a TORC event. Sounds like a nice spot. I believe it's one exit past Belleville, going east on the 401, then north about 15-20 minutes. 60's would not be a problem there.

The $480 is a one time fee per race weekend and covers ALL opc classes...

Ball is in OPC's court... :)
