When a carpet doesn't match the drapes, so to speak, credibility is lost. Had the actual test drivers been featured, the company's "internal" stock would have risen immensely. That ad could have been an opportunity for the company to show the world how much they appreciate and respect their employee's efforts - Real people doing demanding jobs. Those in the know understand how mentally taxing and physically challenging a tester's role truly is... and the toll it takes on one's body.
WaterZebra, as a teen who loved boating, I too dreamed of becoming a Mercury test driver... then I visited their test salt water test facility and learned first-hand what these people do all day - both off and on the water. It's all work and NO play - in every type of water and weather condition - dawn to dusk. I'm sure the job has its rewards, but they are definitely earned.
