Posted the two parcels to you on the 4th may were returned to me othe 27th May-------they were inspected in New Jersey by customs then sent back to me. No explanations, just resealed and repacked and sent back. Been a bank holiday weekend here and everyone wet to the moon. No response from ups yet.

Here we are, Wednesday and very few people are back at work. Certainly no response from the logistics people----------sent em three emails, still no response.
Don't feel like sending any more concepts anywhere until I get some answers.
Been photoing a load of my machines that I don't think lm going to ever use again including my silent compressor, mig/tig inverter welder, argon bottles , gloves and helmet------the whole shebang. Used it four times in as many years and it's taking up valuable workspace, it has to .go.

45 mph-------once I got that Merc 500 up to 46 mph , I left everyone for dead!
Most I ever saw out of the merc was 47-------I got the Carniti up to 48-------finally got the Konig to show a good clean 50 ! I tell you, that was seriously fast and a race winning speed!

Jackie. I was running Merc 500s about that time over here. We were all pretty much running 55mph or so. Were the boats you ran all sit down and about how much did the weigh.

We were all running two up flat bottoms, Rya at that time decreed we should not run single sweaters until much later---------even so --------it was years before even they ran 50 mph.
We had heard the French, Italian and Dutch were running ridiculous times--------but in the early Paris six hours, the English always won--------we could always run sloppy water, the continentals were set up for top speed only and spent most of the time reaching for the sky. Used to go over the channel to Spain, Germany, Portugal, France, holland and Italy and Monaco,------we always brought the main trophy home.
We also ran stock motors with a club foot, half inch above the bottom with a touch of angle of dangle.
Michegan, Cary, Mercury or Record or Radice props-------that was it, the world of runabout racing in a nutshell.

Eventually I had my SD McCall running 62mph with a 500 in 1975. That boat weighed about 580lbs gross. I have heard that later in the 70s they got even faster with those motors.

The 16' Levi's were the pick of the field--------the very best of these with a 100hp Mercury ran 60 mph at best!
Wasnt until the appearance of the tunnel boats early '64 that speeds went a tad more than 70 mph!
Top talked about speeds were a bit like Serra's size of fish, full of mystery and imagination!
Way back in time ---------a guy reached the magic 30mph and then lied about it-------he said he saw 35 on the clock !,,!!! It's been going on ever since!

Took a while for the Americans to learn the value of racing in Paris, Nowhere else is it so critical to have your set up exactly right. It's a compromise between the tortoise and the hare, lose a bit of handling for top speed at your peril-------a boat with a thirty gallon fuel load and barges running both ways on the course, is a different animal to one that's empty, flighty, and wants to bite you on the bum.
Today most drivers are adept at setting a boat up and running within their capabilities. That is of course until somebody wants to get by you and then the adrenaline kicks in -------that's when the trouble starts !
I believe it's called "RACING".

It amazes me when you look at horsepower and speed from the old days.
You could own a 70 and say my boat does 70mph
You could own a 100 and say my boat does 100mph
And today we have 300hp+ and we go a bit faster?
I wonder if the air or water has become more viscous in the last 40 years?

There ya go again Pilgrim, not exactly lies, but nowhere near the truth either-----my very first race boat was a 15' Derry with a 700 ( 70 hp.) Mercury -------on a good day and only lying a bit-----downhill with a tailwind--------open one eye and wince , there it was-------agood clean 50 !
Wasn't until the second generation of tunnels that anything like a 100 mph with a 100 he was achieved.
Michael Werner ran 145 in the mid seventies with a 200 hp. 2.5 .
GG and the Karlson with a V8 400+hp reached 160 ( big FECKIN deal)?
After the Jim Merton episode, Mercury wisely kept away from record runs for the next fifty years.
To the best of my knowledge, Mercury have never tried for an outright WWS outboard record--------no mileage in it for the risks involved.
Butler would be the man to ask!

So to answer your question Pilgrim------both air and water have become "Less Viscous over the last 40 years!

All the races in England were five bouy circuits ---------most had a wicked right hander, times around the one twelve, one twenty mark.
No way could you ever get anywhere near sixty miles an hour with a fifty Mercury, not even with a firework up your rectum and a 100 pound boat!

Not unlike the blue fin hulls (originally Sid Craft) that we ran in '58/62----- we had two up in the boat and ran closed circuits --------by 1962 I was running a Koenig ------5 mph quicker than the Merc so was probably running the low 50/s. I also had a lot neater gearcase than the clubfoot .

We have a problem over here that is unique to England---------bloody gypsies! Romanies, Diddies, Travellers, call them what you will----------but wherever they set up camp, they're a right royal pain in the pooper.
Last weekend they set up camp at the Lowestoft and Oulton Broad Racing Club--------not a lot you can do about them if they decide to reside in your back yard-------no matter how illegal it is. Buggers nearly ruined the bank holiday weekend meeting.

Many years ago they set up camp in my front field and fell about laughing when I requested they sling their hooks. Phoned a few friends and set up the skeet traps--------aimed them straight over the caravans-------you know, it took the best part of 200 12 gauge shells before the last one left.
Gypsies do not like guns or dogs especially my golden Labrador-----PRUETT, he had a growl like an angry Bear.

Private property without permission? Gone in 10min whether they like it it not , regardless of persuasion or race or whatever unless under distress.

Not like that nowadays-------we are under the thumb of Brussels and the EU, migrants, muslims and bull mastiffs have more rights then the residents.
Long ago we had a system, we could make laws and enforce them. We had a police force that upheld the law-----we did not have to bow down to anyone, we were a free nation. But that was before we joined the EU and all our laws were overruled by Brussels-------.
So, we had a referendum and voted to leave, take back our country and decide our own destiny. Problem is, to do that, Brussels wants to bankrupt my country first.
We are not even allowed discussion, only threats.
Did we really win the last World War, only to see the country ruined financially by bureaucrats and the very sick EC.
Looks like the big fight is only just beginning.

Compassion and kindness aside, trespassing unless a situation or conditions give no other choice is still trespassing and rightfully enforceable. Not sure what the EU or Brussels had to say with that. Any port in a storm is not squatters rights.

According to EU law any person can park anywhere they like in the U.K. Without fear of reprisal or intervention providing they are a citizen of the community--------uk law is overruled . And if you take the law into your own hands or protest, uk law comes into force. It's called catch 22. Should the offending person decide to take you to court, then they can apply for legal aid ( and will get it) !
Its a screwed up world we live in, right, honesty, decency and common sense pissed off into the long distance quite some time ago!

Sir Ben did the necessary biz and got the job done--------made it through to the next round, not without a touch of drama ! French are out, which comes as no surprise, even though they have some of the worlds finest sailors.
USA are playing cagey, haven't really showed what they're capable of yet.
I'd still have a little side bet BAR will be up there somewhere.
Grandkids are running in the P1 up at Jackson this weekend, have no idea how they're running, nobody bothered to call.

If bar didnt get the 2 point bonus coming into the round robin, they would be gone already.
Ben seems to having a problem playing with others.
There is no team on his boat and it shows.
That coupled with a slow boat means he has to make some giant leaps forward to stay in it.
All his great sailing acheivments have been in single handed boats.

Hi Jackie many years ago a friend of mine sold a used car to a punter the next week the punter came back with the car damaged said it didn`t drive well brought gipsies with him said he wanted his money back and threatened to burn my friends house down. My friend got out his fathers shotgun and sald you come back and this is waiting for you.The gipsies left within 15 mins later police arrive my friend got 1yr in jail he had no gun permit.This friend has done very well for himself since and these days and drives round in a lamborghini

omc/s 75hp was head and shoulders above the 650 XS Mercury.
The 1000 Mercury was a reputed 100 hp in the earliest form.
You would have to ask Rich Luhrs or Sam Cullis or one of the historians on that one.

Hopefully he can get funding to keep going. Only spent £90 Million to date.
Tall order to jump into the cup with a new team and win at first attempt.

Much improved Ben today and his boat, beat the Japs (who might of had a faster boat), nailed them at the start and stayed in
front and then did much better then anyone expected against the Yanks ( but lost as expected)

If he beats them he will be the biggest winner of the cup even if he goes no further.
