This was a boat I owned and raced in the mid 80s. You will notice the cockpit was different from the norm as we had designed and built it with a safety cell and we were actually strapped in. This was one of the very first offshore boats to have a reinforced cockpit/ safety cell. We used the same technology that we used in our F 1 boat that we won the world championship with the prior year. Bobby Saccenti thought I’d lost my mind wanting to put the cell in an “A” boat, but as I served on the APBA safety committee at the time and we had a big push to make boats safer, it seemed like the right thing to do. Bobby was a great friend then and still is today and I was proud to win races in a boat he built. I owned Tran Tec that later became Armstrong Marine building custom outboard motor brackets thus the name Tran Tec Apache. Gary Garbrecht owned OMC Second Effort and was also a close friend and had a big involvement with my F1 team...thus the Johnson outboard. Great time in offshore racing and I am very honored to have been involved in the sport!

The Evinrude F1-V8 2-stroke, looper race engine is still the fastest unlimited outboard in the world.

The two first Evinrude/Johnson FT-19S was raced in Nora, Sweden 1976 by me and Bo Nilsson. (Bo drove the Johnson and sitting down behind me)
