Rat, that is sweet. I like the graphics scheme a lot. Do you have any closer pics of the decals on the hood?

That is a sharp ride!
That was all original gelcoat which was in great shape for a 1986. I will have to look for close ups of the decals. Paul Vaillancourt from on the board here designed the decals for me. Member Ryan Mcc on the board has the boat now.
Old sleek crafts are COOL!
Any of the old ModVP stuff is COOL!
Attached,
Are a couple of my boats with ETEC engines great engine but the ratio is a real problem having to run 32 x 14.5" props wish there was someone who can mod the ECU for straight racing application any takers ?
Well we know its been done, and done with help from BRP. We just need them to give the ok for them to mod race motors for sale. I want one to.
Figure it has to happen sooner or later.
Is there a marine company in the US that has played aroud with this engine for straight racing application that can modify these computers i know when i ran a Merc i sent the ECU's to Rapair and they put more timing and fuel and took off the rev limiter and i picked up a couple of Mph the engine ran great.
How fast does it run with the etec 225HO???
Does anybody know how big the new E-tecs are going?? Now that both Yamaha and Merc have their 350 hp`s... Have heard about a 350/375?? Can anybody confirm, and what kind of configuration that will be in... V6, V8 or maybe larger???
Anybody please reply!!
Here is my SWAG (Sophisticated Wild A$$ Guess).
I don't think BRP can get any more horses out a production 3.4L block. If they want to compete at 350 (and up !) they will have to bring back the V8 !
That is not a trivial thing to do. The block will require a lot of updating as will the heads in order to accommodate those E-Tec injectors.
Also the time has come for throttle and shift by wire. I think they don't have to provide power steering, but they need to work closely with Teleflex (or whomever) to make certain there are appropriate systems that can be used in new and repower applications.
This is a gamble for BRP. They don't have the "deep pockets" that Brunswick and Yamaha have, so we will have to wait and see.
would actually buy one, that is supposedly why merc quit sellin them, is the market really there? would u people spent the $20,000 still for a performance motor? i believe that is where the merc hipo stuff was gettin to be at the point they stopped.this is just a hypothetical question, alot of guys talk about wantin new stuff, would they purchase it?
Mts1 how many deposits or down payments would it take to get the ball rolling? I think the market is there but not near the volume of the bass, offshore, and skiing. Find out how many placed orders it would take. There has to be some success in order to make believers and the only way to do that is race participation.
More E-Tec 250hp successes. They are the quickest 'out of the box' stock production motor available. They are hammering all the opposition brands in Australian Ski Racing including the 300hp's.

brp is a much more profitable company than mercury. they are a leader in aviation, railcars, snowmobiles, and jet skies. a v-8 is well within their capabilities and they can make an easy 400 hp without any problem. with catalytic equiped sterndrives mandated by epa and carb, high hp outboards will replace a lot of big block chevys. i hope that an outboard hp race between mercury, brp and yamaha will bring better running, more performance, and hopefully keep prices reasonable. i have owned both mercury and omc and i hope that both are profitable. likewise for yamaha. more hp is good for all.
Okay. Educate me.
Key point being a "production" motor. One they are willing to warranty like the rest of their products.
Also, the specs say that the 300 has 76mm stroke vs. the 225/250 73 mm. Did they have to raise the deck, or was there enough stroke in the existing block to just change the crank and rods ?
BRP isn't Bombardier anymore. They spun off the railcars and air planes a couple of years ago. BRP is Bombardier Recreational Products. Evinrude, Johnson, SkiDOo SeaDoo, Rotax, CanAm. Except for Johnson, which is (temporarily) retired, they are all doing well, but I know sales could be a lot better.
Engineering and manufacturing, absolutely. Financially, I don't know if they want to take the gamble.Quote:
...a v-8 is well within their capabilities ...
They currently have no low end products. Wouldn't it be better marketing to have some "fishing" outboards from 5 - 35 hp (and the 40hp E-Tec is a pig) ?
Personally, I hope they bring back the V8. I would have to weigh a whole lot less than Yamaha's V8 and I'm sure it could run with Mercury.
we know they will go on a mirage, stv etc without being a handlin issue, so far. all we can hope is they at least look into it.If the epa wasnt a facor, i think things would be different, but this is the way it is and theyll all develope something new, thats the stage thier at, nothing happens overnite
A nice 300 ETEC with a factory 15 inch mid and a good gearcase for surfacing would be a sweet place for BRP to start. Leave the power head stock at first and see what the market likes. The mid and the gearcase are esential. A cool looking light cowl would also be very nice.
i like that idea
I agree. It is like the Viper for Dodge. They didn't make any money on them but it was a flagship product.
Just look what the 250 H.O. is doing for sales now that it is winning ski races. BRP is getting tons of free buzz that they don't have to pay for.
A bone stock 300 (gotta be at least 320 at the prop) with a 15" mid and surfacing case would sell. It would be the motor of choice on Bullets, Allis, Stokers, Strokers, STVs, and Liberators. They would also sell as replacements for Merc 280s and 300X's on light boats.
Weight would still be an issue but that can be reduced with the short mid and light hood and lighter parts.
As for a V8 etec. They would sell tons of them to the upscale offshore fisherman. That is what Merc is targeting with the new 350 Verado and Yammie with the 350 V8.
An Etec V8 would come in at just under 600 lbs. and could easily make 400 hp. This would trump the Verado and the Yammie. Rich guys with little nads and big wallets would be all over them.
There is no reason not to produce a 15" midsection with the new gear ratio 1.71:1? This would go well on a bass boat with the 300 power head, no excuse not to do it.
did you see the pic on page 1 of this thread? couple years ago but it's your boat, who's the chick in the bikini? I know I was there!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!

If BRP made a 300 HO with a 16 inch mid and a decent lower I would be at the bank tomorrow!!
Exactly, key point being "PRODUCTION MOTOR"!!!!!!!!!! Used to work there, most we ever got was 478.62 propshaft HP on the F1 V8. Most I ever got on the F3 50ci block was 119.86hp!!!!!!! Ticked me off that I couldn't break 120hp, my engineer too!!!!!!!!!!!!!!
BRP will not spend the money, they should also have just introduced their low HP line for fishing motors at the Miami show. Have not seen it but know they have a small HP lineup. The E-Tec is real & in my opinion the best thing out there and I don't even work for them anymore,
"THANK GOD"!!!!!!!!!!!!!!
Going back to my real job in the copper mine driving, will be somewhat incommunicado for a week then go to Vegas, welcome comments tho! Love to hear eveything that is going on, kind of miss it!!!!!!!!!!!
I got called all kind of names when ever I post anything like that

Well!!!!! It's about time!!! we have got those figures in print. Been waiting YEARS & YEARS & YEARS. 478.62hp for a F1 V8 Huh & 119.86hp from a little old 50ci 3 cyl JohnRude 75hp huh. The Dyno sheets are out there as well. Good things come to those who wait. The real figures for the methanol drinking & nitrous breathing world record holder EVINRUDE V8 would be good to see as well.
