My mother, me, and nipper my young brother last visited The Alice Hawthorne in 1944-------some 72 years ago.
Waves of bombers would fly over the pub at lunch time---------we would count them going out, then count them coming back-----that way we could tell how many were missing. Was just a game to us kids------we even knew where they were going to.
Must admit , the 650 XS does not have the same charisma that the in line looper does?
Wasnt looking for you to BUY the concept Roger-----which one do you fancy ? all metal or the wooden one I'm sending to John Schubert to make into something a bit special.
All metal effort you can have for Christmas -------but I might be pushing things with the wooden job. You know what a stickler for detail John is, if it's not perfect, he doesn't want to know. Have you seen some of the amazing stuff he's done? None of them were ever done in a hurry, me, I just get the gleanings of an idea and rush into it like a bull in a China shop-----doesn't always come out right, so I simply move on to the next project .
Sold my mighty bender-----far too big for my next shop, and it released a big bag of gold to play shop with!
Finished the front manifold for the Terrell/Looper wood effort, see if I can get to the post box early on in the week !
will have to get a wriggle on with the looper for the all metal job-------just thought ,-----sod it, let's get back to doing what I like doing best, trans lateral, innovative imaginative nonsense ! Watch out for the Quincy/Wilson square stroke looper-------twelve intake/ six outgoings and some devilishly wicked inbetween bits.
For all of your conceptional, trans lateral, imaginative nonsense, you are being awarded the Kewpie of innovation...

Chucked out the flash gold base and settled for the alloy and stainless stand.
Here's the inlet manifold. All done and dusted.
Dont take any notice of the first foggie, I posted it in error! As you do.
Attachment 362371
Just St to give you some idea Bob of the oversized square looper-------it's that tall to get in the 12 Venturi and the six pipes out the back------should be well on the way by next weekend.
Got a day up north of London tomorrow watching grandson in a pantomime, so there's nothing happening in the shop.
Have been watching a lovely series on BBCtelevision on Sunday nights called "MY MOTHER AND OTHER STRANGERS", about a small village in Ireland during 1943.
328 Squadron USA set up a base there------set the goose pimples on my neck alight I can tell you ! It's told through the eyes of a ten year old boy.
Dont know if you have the series yet, but it's "Wartime Downton Abbey with attitude" ( with Americans).
I haven't seen that one over here. I am working on the wife to promote a trip this summer. My cousin was in the travel business and knows all the tricks of travel over there for us colonials. I want to get over there while Europe still looks like Europe.
There is nothing in the world Iike watching a bunch of six year old kids acting out the nativity play.
each one of them is bursting at the seams, singing their hearts out, Gene Kelly and Fred Astaire never put the effort into a song and dance routine like these kids--------proud mums and dads had tears rolling down their cheeks just watching. We've all seen the inn and the stable and the manger, three wise men, two kids dressed as a donkey, Joseph and Mary, angels and sheep--hundreds of times, -----no matter how big or small the part the kids had to play, they did it with style, passion and aplomb-------no inhibitions, body and soul goes into the performance of any bunch of little kids doing the nativity at Christmas in front of mum and dad.
if it's been a while since you last saw a "nativity" ------you could do a lot worse than take time out and see what Christmas is all about !
Redbird is right at home with the Unique boat award received from CRA- Classic Raceboat Association- March Thunder Tavares RegattaAttachment 362453
Jackie.. I'm told the eagle has landed this end..I've got the lurgy at the moment so looking forward to picking it up at the end of the week..Thanks, Phill.
My oldest friend, James Albert Tarelli Meynell died on Monday afternoon-------we have been friends for over 75 years. Now I really do feel like the last man standing.
Sold my big hydraulic bender yesterday, now I can move around in the workshop, but it feels like I just lost another friend.
Started on the new workshop---- all new electrics -----more than enough power points and a rake of LED lights--------new workbenches, carpet on the floor and a place for everything. Time I had some sort of order in the shop-------it's been like the bottom of a baby's pram for too long.
Was invited to put three of the "Concepts" into a very celubrious antique dealers shop in Arundel. Gave him a Wing, and HARSOUL the twin hulled americas cup sailing thingy ! It's a huge shop with windows in the high street--------not sure he'll have the neck to put the Harsoul in the front window?
Chin up! You have been the last man standing before. You will be the last man standing in my mind forever. I have never met a man as kind and thoughtful in my life. From the month or so we spent together several years ago, to the few times we got to visit at the OFF events, I always cherish those times. I too, would like to take this time to thank you so much for the Raveau you built for me. I have it displayed in front of my TV. Anyone who watches my TV has to see the Raveau.
We are eagerly awaiting your visit to North Carolina.

Quincy looper taking shape-------wicked looking rig, has "dog nasty" gleanings already-------the six stove pipes are pure evil, tested my patience today, broke two four mil taps inside the tubes, should have just spun up another two.
Why do I always do it the hard way ?
Question begs, do I do a period speedmaster, or one of my unmentionables?
Got the car boot sale in the morning, and ten, four foot LED's to put up in the new shop. May have to wear shades in there.
Sorted out the new fuse box and switch gear-----today's price for the sixteen switches, cable, fuses, trips etc today would be over $350, I keep picking gear up at the bootie for shirt buttons!
Would you believe it--------its bloody Thursday again !
A week today and my son Mark and his family are coming over to spend Christmas with us, now that's what I call a result !
Attachment 362521Attachment 362522
Though I'd dAttachment 362522o a Fuji on you and post a couple more pics of CC7, he might even straighten up the last two for me-------I must have double clicked or something-----I have no idea how come it printed the same thing twice.
Must confess I do get a tad pissed off sometimes when it seems I wait for ever to get one downloaded .
I never have learned how to print any more than "pulling teeth" pictures (one at a time)
Attachment 362563Attachment 362564Attachment 362565Attachment 362566Attachment 362566
Made some progress ! CC7 is turning into the meanest SOB I ever did--------the globular stand is quite unique-------well chuffed with that !
A Bit Larger and Straighter...

Knew you could rely on Bobby V to straighten things up-----thank you once again, much obliged Bob !
All the LED's and power supply installed in the new shop-------a step in the right direction.
Tomorrow the timber is being delivered for the workbenches and shelving, should have made big inroads into it by this time next week.
Woodend Cottage is looking a bit sad, Murphy knows that something's going on, but she can't make out what, doesn't like leaving the house for long------thinks she might get left behind, I tell her that every time she destroys a toilet roll. We don't have toilet roll holders anywhere in the house, we have baskets with lids--------she has this thing about toilet rolls------they must be destroyed. That's when I threaten to leave her behind.
See that the P1 series in the USA have decided to switch to Mercury motors as of now. The old Ermintrudes have given good service over the years, but it's time to move with the times.
Mark and Craig are racing together in Mumbai next March, that'll be the first time since they ran "Taboo" ------that's a few years back. Worth putting a shilling or two on them, they're a formidable duo in any boat.
Im rambling again so I will bid you all goodnight ------may your god go with you, J.
Attachment 362683Attachment 362684
Finished the gearcase, polished the pipes, offered the lot to the orbital and voila-----nearly there, which is a bloody good job because I started packing up the shop.
Attachment 362736
Thats it then CC7 all done and dusted---------took just a week from start to finish----- but did do a rake of other jobs as well.
Thats the lot for this year------ just decided to do a Bugatti pedal car as the next "concept" ------worked out how to do the wheels, springs, steering wheel, handbrake and exhaust. If the propulsion (rod or chain) proves a tad difficult, then I'll stick a 12V battery in it!
Attachment 362737
Something along these lines but with a bit more "Panache"?Attachment 362738
bit more like the red job methinks. Proportions are more pleasant on the peepers.
Wont be done for this Christmas, unless of course big bags of gold are being waved.
By the way, just picked up 3sheets of stainless steel for the bodywork, already have some beautiful ash for the framework. Just have to find some tyres and tubes. Think I have enough alloy to conjure up a suitable chassis---------So Bobs your uncle and Fanny's yer aunt--------roll on 2017 !
Today is OUR Christmas Day-----mine and Jilly's-------started with a bottle of Fortnum And Masons best bubbly with smoked salmon and slices of well buttered malted wholemeal brown ( served in bed by my good self of course).
Turkey is smelling fantastic-----stuffing ready to go in the oven--- we have nobody coming today, it's just our day today, a quiet day, to reminisce, sit in front of the log fire, to reflect on what we have had already and contemplate on the adventure that lies ahead.
My youngest is hosting a Christmas dinner for 32 next Sunday -------me, being the cranky old bastard Willabee says I am needed a special Christmas of my very own, today's that day-----CHEERS .?
Merry early Christmas Jackie & Jilly as well as a happy & prosperous New Year. I wish the same greetings t all my friends on S&F. Hinsdale, Luhrs, Rothermal, Pinson, Sirois, Mullins, Seebold, Sera,Stickle, Landham & many others that I'm stumped to recall, age factor.
Need your home address john-------have the cc7 all packed up for you to detail but nowhere to send it!
PM is probably the way to go.
Have a great christmas yourself john- we may still have one more get together left ! Who the hell knows ? I'm flying up to Leeds/bradford airport for Jims Funeral tomorrow, Back the same day if the fog stays away,
Had one of the best christmas days of all time yesterday ,Tastiest Turkey and Perfect Plum Pud, Does it get any better than this ?
Got your pm John .
See Ted Boyd had a mad fit of depression and uncovered a Lee Craft this time.
Your worse than i ever knew how to be Ted------Get the Redbird up and running afore you start the Leecraft---------I waited all weekend to hear that thing fire up. Looks good , but no noise. Same with Raynor Blair
At least i got a good excuse with the cosworth----we dont have a motor ------whats your excuse fellas ?
Adverts by the airline says flights to Leeds/Bradford from 29-99------but thats only after midnight new years eve or before dawn on midsummers day------trying to find a flight to La La city is easier than trying to get a flight to Bradford for ``````29-99 !
so, her indoors goes "on line" as you do to get the best possible price for everything these days from scented bum wipes to flights FROM Southampton to leeds/bradford !
She finally settles on a travel firm who charge the bargain price of 210 pounds for the 45 minute flight and pays for it with her credit card via the magic of the internet. JOB DONE-----OK SO FAR ?
ALL BRIGHT EYED AND BUSHY TAILED, i arrive at Southampton airport long before 7 for the 8-30 domestic----check into eastern airlines------get allocated my seat and settle down for the hour and a half wait before take off .
WILL MR JACK WILSON PLEASE REPORT TO RECEPTION---- the voice booms out over the sound system, well thats a first i thought and slowly walked to reception. " Will you please follow this officer sir"---------I followed the said officer, out into the street via a side door, then back into the main arrivals which was by now teeming with the hoards of frequent flyers that gather at airports throughout the world at this time of the morning. Guy behind the desk says "Ah mr wilson,it would appear that we have not been paid by the agent for you to fly to Leeds/Bradford. You will have to buy another ticket should you wish to travel" --------I start to explain that i am 85 and on my way to the funeral of my oldest friend, but get cut off and handed a telephone ---------i am tolld that i do not have a valid ticket and will have to buy another one-------ok says i --all sunshine and light. No problem, how much, Quanta costa ? Lets get out of here--------Thats when they kick you in the Balls whilst your tying your shoelaces--------THAT WILL BE 380 POUNDS SIR------AT THIS POINT , POLITENESS GOES OUT OF THE WINDOW--------i Point to the sign that says Leeds/Bradford from 29-99, sorry sir all those seats have gone and the economy, you will have to pay the full fare---Thats when i lost the plot and told them i could fly to Orlando, have a week in disney world and back again for that price. People queuing behind are getting a tad pissed at my antics when the call comes over the tannoy----------Last call for the leeds/Bradford flight????????? I bit the bullet---Yesterday the feckin bear ate me !!!!!!!
You think it stopped there-------oh no-----that was only the start of a very very long day i'll post this for now---cos if i dont. S & F will whizz into cyber space never to be seen again.
As the saying goes...no good deed goes unpunished...
Can't wait to hear how the rest of your day went...
You may have to wait a while for that Bob, if i take a day out of my life, there's a price to pay,
I am like a well maintained machine that functions without any one really noticing its there--------until it stops!
Then theres a build up--------its only then that i am fully appreciated--------not that anyone tackles the backlog--------its just that i have to play catch up today and that has left me a tad "Knackered", which meant i needed a stiff CC7 which meant i am not fit for human consumption or S&Fing, if you get what i mean?
Just have to say a big thank you Gene for the tiny christmas card with the lovely present inside--------as the canny scots say LANG MAY YER LUM REEK. !!!!!!!
OH, all right then-----ill put you out of your misery--------CHEERS
Bloody Thursday again, one more and that's 2016 down the tube.
Colonial Wilsons all arrive today, Mark, Vick and Kate, Louise and Gary, "whole lot of loving going on" -------Christmas has officially started!
Wonder how come nobody has ever bothered to write a Christmas song any better than "WHITE CHRISTMAS"------- maybe I should sit down and write one-------I know I could cobble some notes and lyrics that would be a whole heap better than the crap being put out over the airwaves today, nobody has any talent any more, unless you call rapping and spinning round on your head "Talent".
I'll see if I can get into it later in the day------J.
