Wish I could tell you it was me that sent it Fuji--------but I have to deny all knowledge of same.
Its a beautiful piece of kit--------looks a bit like a " Schiada" an English car dealer imported in the sixties, Cyril ???
Wings have come a long way in the last forty years-------that is a work of scientific art-------whether it works or not is yet to be determined.
Looked at the Boyd bird------ started to pack it in the suitcase -------- had one of my mad fits of depression and realised the base was crap. Took me all afternoon to fabricate a base for the wing that supports THE WING if you know what I mean.
I know when a things passable and when it needs a kick up the arse-----anyway, end result is, -----it's ready for OFF.
Just got this feeling in my whizzer that a fair few numbers will not make it to Tavares.
Damn near sliced my thumb off today--------tore a sanding belt into strips and proceeded to sand off the item in the lathe-------got a tad careless, the belt wrapped itself round the steady, but like the damn fool I am--------I had wrapped each end round my fists to make sure nothing went wrong------this time it did. I actually stopped the lathe, but not before the edge of the belt sliced between the index finger and thumb, maybe late into work tomorrow!?
Now don't you start going all "Willabee and Websters" on me Roger------always looked on you as a constant along with Stavros and Seebold.
Maybe you, Rich or Gene can tell me what make of boat Odell ran in the Bahamas 500 (Mona Lou), I was told it was a Cigarette , but it looks more like a Bertram to me!
...1968 Bahama's 500 - Odell Lewis & Mel Riggs - 32/33 Maritime #49 - White hull bottom with sides & topdeck yellow...http://www.offshoreonly.com/forums/a...l-lewis-67.jpg
...Odell Lewis won both the inaugural 1967 Bahama's 500...AND the 1968 Bahama's 500...In the boat he named after his wife - Mona Lou -http://themaconcountynews.com/wp-con...6/IMG_1882.jpg
That's the shot I was trying to find Fuji, thank you,------Odell can talk the hind legs off'n a grizzly bear and on a couple of occasions l have had the pleasure of listening to his fantastic tales, so I know he called "Mona Lou" after his wife-------it looks like a Bertram to me, but then again I do not have a vast knowledge of offshore RACEBOATS .
My son Mark and grandson Craig know a hell of a lot more about "OFFSHORE" than I ever will!
If anyone out there has a copy of "THE IRON FIST" I could buy, please let me know. Bring it to Tavares and we"ll haggle over the price!
I would recommend you should read " SUCH SWEET THUNDER"------ it was the first well written book about "COSWORTHS", done long before I ever was involved with the team, it makes for some marvellous reading. I can bring my copy to OFF, sadly, I never got any of the staff or even Duckworth to sign it---------on reflection, what a dingleberry!!!!
Jackie - Have one coming your way in Tavares - "If anyone out there has a copy of "THE IRON FIST"
Just the one on Amazon for $75.00
Thanks a lot Roger-------we'll no doubt come to some mutual agreement, as we usually do.
Went to the LMBRC sixty year reunion last week, -----one of the main topics of conversation was Tavares. Alfie Bullens Boys and Steve Pinson had been spreading the gospel.
There are rumours that Bristol town council would like the race back on, all the plans are in place-------just one tiny stumbling block-------the RYA in its wisdom refuses to sanction it.
Saturday------forage at the facility day. Not looking for anything, that's when you find the bags of gold,.
Hand is healing nicely-----can't keep a plaster on it but can't get dirt in it as it's an open wound, cutting oil, sawdust, polishing compound and alloy filings do not constitute as "dirt"! Getting the kitchen goddess to understand the fact that these things are antiseptics is proving quite ------er----interesting shall we say.

.................................................................................................... .................................................................................................... ..
Jackie....Don't hold your breath on this one. The origins of this came from a speech from our recently elected mayor and did not specify the racing alone but mentioned a range of things to appear to put Bristol on the map again, I am surprised he didn't mention
the slave trade and John Cabot sailing off to find the New World again.
I mix with other wasters who live on boats in the docks, they have heard nowt....
The fabric of the docks has changed since the good old days, all fancy flats and bistros now... ask B.S he was here last year.
To give you a small indication of what could lie ahead...There is a model boat club that meets weekly and uses a small length
of dock wall/ water towards what was the Cumberland Turn
Sorry fellers had a touch of the heavy finger on that last, but I'm sure you get the scenario............Phill.

Many, many years ago, before Pontious was a pllate, the Franklin Mint did a special edition of the 1907 Rolls Royce Silver Ghost. I was given one for my 50th birthday. It's been lost for the last 25 years.
Her who shall be obeyed at all times was throwing out an old suitcase and found it, still in its presentation case, along with a rake of long lost memorabilia .
What to do with it ?????
Attachment 359462Attachment 359463Attachment 359464
One of the F.O.N.D.A. races was held in Abu Dhabi in the seventies-------because I had a glamorous title ( Presedent of Fonda) I was given one of these golden tunnel boats.
Again, it was lost for 25 years.
What the hell do you do with old momento's?
None of my kin want to know about my old boating junk Phill------VALUE ?------Polished brass comes out at £4 per kilo from the scrap yard.
I have given loads of boats and engines to various NATIONAL museums over the years, Kevin Desmond's French nautical museum-------Basildons national maritime in Essex. After just a few years they all fell by the wayside for one reason or another. Then the contents get hawked around the hog market and generally "Dissapears".
Collections of raceboats are only safe as long as the owners are alive and well, with enough dinero to keep toys. The minute they pop their clogs, the scavengers move in, ie:Sotheby's----Christies and all the other auction houses-------so what does" Value" mean in terms of old raceboats memorabilia ?
Clocks went back last night-------extra hour in bed I could have done without. Why the hell do they do it is beyond me! Just WHO decrees we should fiddle fart with time---------didn't anyone ever ask the reason for this useless ridiculous piece of nonsense. It serves no purpose whatsoever.
Folk who wake up at crack--o---sparrow still wake up at the same time.
During the war, there was a TWO HOUR time swing--------some said it was to help farmers get the harvest in! Never made a blind bit of difference to the farmers, frogmen or fishermen-------I'm sure it never made any difference to fighter pilots or Freemasons ---------nobody gives a flying fart if we're an hour in front or an hour behind------whichever way you look at it-------if you think we have the same time as the continentals------think again-------they just altered their clocks by an hour too.
Jackie...please check your private message box...

I have my copy of Iron Fist signed by Rose and Alex - not for sale. Also have attached a photoAttachment 359478 of the Mona Lou as she is today, the Fond du Lac Sheriff's Department rescue boat - if I had the money, it would be home in my garage getting restored to her original glory.

Think i got the basic shape somewhere near Bernie--------exaggerated the running strakes-----it's what I do to hide the flaws.
Should I or not stick a gear case under its rear end------or maybe just leave well alone ?
Thought Odell might just like something similar to Mona Lou!------he probably has a dozen models of his old boats, still if he don't want it, I can always stick it in the auction on Friday night at Tavares .
Told you I was like a bloody butterfly------flitting from one concept to another.
Just when you think you have a "Cunning Plan" for the next week or so, you get the inkling of an idea and wham! Before you know it you've disappeared into ye long distance-----you know the old adage -finish what you're doing before embarking on a fresh project-------wish to god I could do that-------- I might make some progress.
I just love the grain in that chunk of Ash. John SHERLOCK should get his hands on it, he's a master at finishing "Concepts".
Tried four different mounts, they were just OK, but I think this mount could be memorable, it's clicked quite nicely.
Phill, read your P/M, let me think on it a while--------there is some damage to the mounts on the boat, plus two million spadgers webs -------let me put it back together and see what you think then!
Got a neck that's stiff as a barges pole------been necking these thousand miles an hour aspirins all day yesterday. Haven't been doing anything different, same old routine in fact, so where the hell this came from I have no idea.
Start of another week already--------got another eye test today at 9 am. Why don't I tell em my peepers are fine, I don't need speccies, and I shouldn't be wasting theirs or my time--------then I'll be accused of being a grumpy old git------nothing could be further from the truth-------I just don't like, time wasting, money wasting and stupidity.
Nine days and the next big adventure starts-------Norwegianair to Lauderdale, Mark picks me up and straight down to Key West-------four days down there then back to Stuart for three days-------then up to Tavares for four days----------for the time of my life( never felt like this before, good name for a song DONTCHA think?).
Lets see how the day unfolds, I got a million things to do and such a short time to do it in, time flies when your having fun!
If it goes to auction, get O'dell to autograph it - if Mel Riggs shows up have him sign it also. Speaking of Mel, as far as I know, he is the winningest ocean racer of all time - mostly of it as throttleman - seems like he had 49 wins - need to get out and see him and verify this - his shop is only 10 miles away. Anytime I walk in there I get a warm greeting - like "Now what the F--- do you want!" Ya gotta love Melvin.
Every time I sign anything Bernie, it devalues! Either that or I get arrested for loitering and malfunction--------once got a citation from a nice highway patrol man in Flagstaff, his parting words were "You have a nice day now"!
Have it on good authority O'dell don't do autographs, just licks the pencil end and does the Jesus sign.
Dont think I ever met Mel Riggs, unless it was in the early early days of "Prancing with Pruett"------ most of that's a blur and big gaps!
Dont think it'll reach auction------sometimes I do things that money couldn't buy, other times I do things because I was asked to-------then sometimes I just get an idea fixed in my head, cogs start to turn and out pops a concept that doesn't have a value, but is priceless-------if you know what I mean!
i have no idea how many offshore wins Sirois had, but it seemed to me he and Al Copeland won a bunch of races in the "POPEYES"
Stevie Curtis has seven world titles and a GONG, so he can't be far off!
Did the spec savers eye test and parted with big bags of gold in exchange for four sets of specs
The minute I walked into spec savers I wanted to fall about laughing------very important people are in there with leather bound clip boards and Mont Blanc pens------- girls in black tights and pencil skirts with slits up to knicker lastic level and breathless voices.
I wear specs for eye protection in the shop, don't need them for reading or driving but regulations says its two years since I had my eyes blown------time to get em done again.
Does any of your family suffer from glycoma? Better you ask them, not me-------there was some lunacy in the Middle Ages but I think it's all bred out by now. Do you have headaches-------yes, every time I visit the opticians-------why do you think this is --------I was hoping you could tell me.
Do you prefer bifocals or vari lenses--------as long as she's got white teeth and big knockers I don't mind!-------when was your last eye test? Couple of years or so ago------can you be more specific------look up your records------it was in this shop before modernisation and the 25 scanners and hospital sized staff moved in here.
Do you drive? ------No , I flap my wings and just take off-------you need optics to drive, and another set for reading------do you watch TV------is the pope Catholic?
Next time you're due for an eye test-------don't bother!
Under the 2 for 1 scheme I now have four pairs of optics-------but my wallet is £160 light. Her indoors is satisfied and I got away lightly
More pricks in the opticians than the pin cushion-----
Attachment 359583Attachment 359584
Even the the home made water cress soup from the kitchen goddess has Halloween faces!______well hells teeth-----it is October 31st on Elm Street ?
Another beautiful day, wall to wall sunshine and high sixties on the 1st November ------maybe there is some truth to this "Global warming" tale.
Its packing day out in the shop-------running out of bubble wrap and Sunday Telegraph, paid lots of coinage for an extra suitcase on Norwegianair -------surprising how few metal concepts make up 23 klilos--------still, that amount on Ipost comes out at over $100.!
Cant lie here any longer--------can smell breakfast and I have a shed load of jobs scheduled-------plus we have Lizzie all day today. Get back to you lunchtime .
Had another mad fit of depression-------threw caution to the winds and did something I swore I would never do again------------PUT PAINT ON A WOODEN BOAT ,!
Did a bit of foraging on Mona Lou--------turns out it was "YALLER" as the colonials say-------flatted the lacquer and filled the pot up with the only yellow paint I have-------it's between mustard and baby crap,--------fingers crossed I don't screw it up again !
Looks like the APBA or whoever it is sanctions offshore events has tagged another race on the calender that's the same weekend as Tavares, Craig is trying to back out of it as he needs to play golf with the old farts. Talk about organising a piss up in a brewery!
Just realised I haven't booked a room for myself in Tavares-------managed to get a bed for Thursday night at the inn on the lake, after that I could be "Park Benching"-------- must be something going on in that neck of the woods that weekend!
Ok all you old fart golfers------after the golf tourney, we make our way to VINCENTS ITALIAN RESTAURANT.
Dinner starts at 1800 hours ( 6 pm).
you can choose from the menu and you will each have individual tickets-------if you want wine, no problem, it's down to you---------average price is 12/18 dollars a head excluding wine!
Bill and Betty Baker recommend the place---------if any non golfers want to join in, then you will be most welcome
Will post a link to the restaurant web site, that way you will all know the address and cannot possibly get lost?
Vincentsitalianrestaurant.com.
There you go. That's the place-------there's the menu-------all you got to do is turn up!
Balls in your court now fellas-------we've done everything except wipe your bum after.!
NO, NO, NO, NOT EVER, DONT EVEN THINK ABOUT IT.
Just weighed in most of the trophies and concepts 40 kgs, even if I didn't take a spare pair of knickers, there is no way on Gods earth are all these items going to make it- in just two oversize suitcases------some of the bigger golf trophies have to remain on the shelf along with the all metal "REDBIRD " -----that's saved 7 kgs already. Still, if you look on the bright side, it's a good start for next years trophies.
O'Dell's YALLER Mona Lou has to go and I haven't even weighed that yet.
Lizzie has been good as gold today, won't be long before she's helping out in the shop------looks like we got her until Friday----------mom and dad are on a business trip to Berlin so we are lucky enough to have her until then.
Dont you just love it when a plan comes together?
Jackie, did I see you are going to Key West for the races? The fellow you met last year over at the Loreli resturant is back in Islamorada for the winter - Mr. Don S. Just in case you need someone to talk to -
Mark is picking me up at Lauderdale Bernie, then we head straight down to Key West ------will probably be around 11 pm to midnight when we pass through Islamorada Wednesday 9th November.
Mark has to set up his stall Thursday morning (Wilson Custom Marine) . Mainly props and gear cases.
Maybe I could get to spend an hour or two fishing with you Bernie ? That little **** Serra has promised to take me fishing--------that was four years ago----- bloody good job I didn't hold my breath.
Well, if someone would buy me a plane ticket to come to the Keys, I'd take you fishing, we could use Simonson's boat! I won't be down in November for the OFF. Will be down for the month of March for the springtime Classic Raceboat show at Tavares.
