EVINRUDE STORM BOAT MOTOR WWII –
The Evinrude outboards built for the war effort made enormous contributions to the allied victory. The Evinrude 4-60, a four-cylinder, two-cycle racing engine that traced its heritage to the Super Elto Quad of 1928, became the ‘Storm Boat Motor’. Modified from 60 to 50 horsepower and from 6000 rpm to 5000 rpm, the military version featured a bipod that allowed it to be placed in the middle of special Storm Boats that could carry eight soldiers at planning speeds. These powerful Evinrudes propelled the first wave of American across the Rhine – 125,000 troops in a single day.
