Been told to put a V6 prop shaft in my V4 case, some work required but will work. Then re-hub all my props V6. Good to go.

Fwiw my 88 "extra" special's a conglomeration of parts from '75 to '92.
(Block is '77 140.)
Had an old timer down here call it a "shop" motor. Asked him what he meant and he said, "Looks like ya swept up the shop and put a motor together."
I can deal with that ...

Ok folks this has gone way beyond what the thread started as.
Not bad with 2500 views there must be other folks like me wanting to mod there V4s
I will post some new threads on each part of the mod.
Hopefully we can all contribute a little to have a very quick reliable lake motor, well thats the plan anyways.
Thanks to all who added to this thread with you guys there would be no forum.
I found the 1977 115 intake to be better than some of the other intakes. Its longer between the reed blocks and the carb mout. Makes for better flow path from the carbs to the reeds because the reed blocks are offset from the carb intake. You need to mill off a part of the casting on drivers side of the casting that seems to have no purpose. Also putting on the 78+ intake silencer is much better. Need to rework the throttle linkage mounts on the silencer too for that because they are different from the 73-77 linkage mounts. I put the 1.375 carbs on mine too. This was all on a 135 v4 with bubble back and high comp heads.
I built a horizontal reed intake for a v4 too out of billet aluminum but haven't finished that engine. Doing a new programmable ignition for that motor too but have way too many projects.
Yes the later intakes are an inch taller.
bigger gap from reeds to carb slows throttle response
I'll try to remember that ...

Will a 77 140 with that later front do more and what rpm?
The taller intake has a much better flow path from the carb to the reed cages. Looking in the shorter intake half the reed cage might as well not even be there because the flow path from the carbs takes a torturous 90 degree turn to reach the furthest reed petals.
This is the intake i like. Its sort of an intermediate to the one posted above because the throttle linkage doesn't connect to the intake. It attaches to the silencer like the old style manifolds.

And you use this silencer.
