After studying this photo, I'm assuming that assembly of the V6 and V8 products starts at the transom bracket and extends from there. The only "overhead" installation might be the powerhead itself? Looks like any movement of products or large pieces is by articulated machine. When we did a trade study for similar automation at Boeing we found that the investment paid off in labor and employee healthcare savings. Only question I have for this foto is how the motor finally makes its way to the Merc steel shipping pallet? Reason I'm asking is I have a ProXS V8 on a Merc pallet and I've heard 2 stories from dealers on getting the motor off the pallet. (1) Tip the pallet up to vertical position. (2) Tip / rotate the motor up off the pallet.
The die cast MerControl was the best ever made. I really miss them. Long before they integrated trim rocker switches into the binnacle control arm, I rigged a momentary toggle switch into my MerControl arm for throttle / trim control (still in use today). I'm not happy with the plastic junk that replaced the original MerControl. There are some things you just don't mess with or replace. MerControl was one of them. Only thing that could have been improved was the method of attachment of the MerControl to the gunnel, seat or floor.
