I don't think it's fair to say , or make it sound like they won the championship in one race . They went to all of them and pecked away at it .
As you know , they won , they lost , they tore their $hiz up , fixed it , tested , and when the gates swung open (sorry I'm still use to dragstrips ) , they opened for all to come take a shot at it .
I won the first of my five Quick 16 titles at Moroso Motorsports park in 1994 . I didn't win a single race . I runner up'd , I got to four cars many time where the other three were different people etc .
In 1997 I won eight out of the ten races held that year .
It didn't make the 94 season less important or hollow . Just as it shouldn't detract from Nick and Scott's season ... :smiletest:
Congrat's 2017 Stock World Champion's !
I am not trying to make light of it. There was a ton of effort and money spent to show up at 4 races across the country but when its a double points event, I would expect to have other boats to race with. In OPA, you get points for showing up even if you don't start the race. There are 3 races in Key West each year within one week for the worlds. The fact that there are multiple races and it usually produces the largest group of entries is what has always made it so special for the guys that earn "world champions".
I like your 97 season stats. That is having your stuff dialed in and not something that many will ever duplicate when you go thru that many rounds at every event.

All the best in Clearwater boys!!
Thanks everyone !! We are cautiously optimistic !!!
This is a race of boats between Nick, Gary, and Casey. Calm water only two turns and decent straights make it a boats race more then a drivers race. Going to be fun to watch. Five years ago was one of the best races that I have ever witnessed- https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=KjRWc-6Y188

I never cared for guys showin up with no motor in the car , roll thru tech for their 20 points .. but I didn't write the rules .. so all I could do is offer to tow em faster then they ever been ... ;)
Look's like I owe a retraction ... hopefully I was just premature (at my age , that would be a welcome change )
" Congrats 2017 National Champion's "
Thank you JP , no one else in our class did it more than three times .Quote:

Chaz you were a big part of our success brother Thanks for the support !!
Otherwise I would have to go back and work for Vegas Dave at Burger King ... :D
Nick and his son ended up in 2nd place with a 5 boat field. Gary drove off on the pack and had about a 30 second lead at the end of the race. Ryan had a good run coming in 3rd, and Rob and Casey had guardian issues so they ended up about 10 seconds behind Ryan for fourth place.
Great races at Clearwater, the superboat class was incredible with Performance boat center leading flag to flag but they had stihl and whm on their heels the whole time. Those three boats stayed within a few hundred yards of each other for what seemed like forever. WHM and Stihl swaped the 2nd place position a few times in the 80 mile race and the group got really tight in the South turn several times (nobody goes in as hard as Jay and Billy) but the Performance Boat Centers J.T. and Myrick would out accel. them every time.

"BONZI" nick...what a great effort....and to take your kid for a ride of his life...YOUR THE MAN !!!!! JOHN TOMMILSON of TNT was at the KEY WEST WORLDS following GENTRY in the inside corner when GENTRY rolled passing a slower boat, john stopped and jumped in to save GENTRY reguardless of the race outcome to help a friend in need...WHAT A GREAT COMMUNITY WE LIVE IN....glad to be your friend buddy....D
Every dad out there has just gotta love a father and son racing team !
I agree Chaz !!! It was awesome to see Austin wheeling that thing around the turns, considering prior to Sunday he had all of 20 minutes in the boat !! !! There's still a lot of dialing in to do and more seat time to acquire but the boat is exceeding expectations !! They were a little over wheeled for the Sunday Conditions but prop science is an elusive pursuit !! More testing is in store for this week, weather permitting !! Dave
