I thought I covered that :
Pre Limiter :
Being that they would rev freely from the airflow capacity .. it's easy to over rev the motor and hurt parts . Not the motors fault … is it ..
Didn't all those boats come with BBC's .. maybe a few had SBC's in the 26 or maybe 28 Cig's .. But for the most part , rat motors .. that means you get the majority of drivers , both good wheel men .. and strokes . My money is on you replaced motors for guys with more dollars than cents .. err .. sense .
My personal opinion , boat motors are meant for boats , and car motors belong in cars .
If your going to run a free breathing big inch motor with no limiter and sail it thru the air with the props out of the water .. it's no different than putting a car in and out of neutral at 100 mph … with your foot on the floor .. ;)
In the early 90's I use to go down to Blue Thunder and buy up .. blown up 509 and 540 inch motors . I wasn't going to tell them that 3/8" valve stems , 3/8's pushrods and 125 pounds on the seat was meant for roofing trucks , not Hi-Perf boats.
Scored cyl wall , didn't matter .. boring it to 4.600 as soon as it got home . Them boat anchor ( no pun ) heads either went in the scrap pile or out the back of the truck and over the bridge .. on the way home .. KaaaSplooossshhh .. :o
Dart 360's would make just shy of 1000 HP with a .780 lift roller and 300 on the seat . The boating industry supported more drag strips than you'll ever know ..
I love this thread , don't want to see it ruined by words . Please carry on ..
Mid-Life .. He's an honest man as well . I went up to the Dart booth at the PRI show, a kid said , can I help you ? I hope so , I rung the bell at a few races this year , sent in the proper paper work and your one of three dead-beat company's that haven't sent me my money yet .. Dick walked over and said , I'm very sorry sir , I'll personally take care of this next week when I get home . I shook his hand , thanked him .. and he was a man of his word . $300 for heads and $300 for intake manifold. For each race win . And $150 / $150 for each runner-up .. One lump sum check .
I had one Brodex block and one Donovan .. but both those motors had Dart heads on them .. :)
Cuder .. you forgot about the $100 dollar bill taped to the dash board story .. and wheelies in third gear on a dirt road … maybe those are for another time .. :D
