1969 the X-115/GT-115 was replaced with this new OMC midsection/gearcase. I guess there was some early piston problems with 99cu in powerhead but the new Starflite/Stinger was the beginning of the end for Merc domination with the skyscraper.
We all know what happen in Paris 1970.:)

FYI - the picture of the Merc boats that was used for the pre-race Paris 1970 article was taken at the Miami 225 (won by Mercury) in 1970, not in Paris. I can't imagine how crazy the Gendarme would have gotten if a bunch of the Merc 1350 stackers had fired up for a run down the Seine. :DQuote:

Paris 1970 belonged to OMC, but I believe Molinari & Mercury won it the two or three years prior to that race and then Merc came right back to capture 1971 with Pallalio/Downard and 1972 with Molinari/Hering .....:thumbsup:
