Speedos on the Hudson didn't work well in those days. The pitot tubes were always breaking or clogging w/river $hit! The 2.5s would spin 30"cleavers 82-8400 on that boat. Prolly high 90's. cm.

I remember reading the Hot Boat article on that V22 and the twin Challenger....don't remember which was faster and / or better riding.
Makes me want to find a twin for my old 2.4....:D:D:D
I finally ran the boat today, With the motor set very low (for break in), my father and I, and 40 gallons of fuel the boat ran 50 mph at just about 4000 rpm. I cant wait to get the motor broken in and finally start to dial this boat in and enjoy it

In my anything challenger thread I think I posted the article with the challenger and velocity. Gotta look.
Mike what pitch prop are starting with??? I hit 50 MPH right around 4300-4400. I am running a 24P 3 blade labbed with a bit more cup. Right now I am hitting 70 with a little chop and touching the rev limiter every so often. At this point my best guess would be 73-74 with that light set-up you have. The best thing I have done so far is remove my bottom paoint and put that light weight back seat in. I am getting better speeds out of it even extra people and coolers...LOL
any 22 outboard velocitys for sale???? under 8k??????

Nice boat. I believe Mark will sell without power.
highvelocity- I'm running a used 24 trophy, only 3 more hours of break in time to go!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!! :reddevil::reddevil:

The 1985 I sold was the kevlar hull. I know this because I had the origional build sheet and I gave it away for 8k with a 300 johnnyrude on it. :-(
Doug
Edit: I recently purchased a 2004 Velocity 220. It was laid up with S-glass and vinylester resin; it has an external latham steering, stainless marine hydraulic jack plate, plus lots more. No engine though.
Here are two pictures of (what was) my velocity. I bought it used (hull only) in 1992 from Hilsboro Marine in Pompano Fl., and sold it in 2003. The pictures were taken in Antigua. The boat is a 1984 Steve Stepp built boat. The engine was a 1985 Merc 3.4 with a 20 inch shaft and low water pickup (the engine cover was from a later model Merc). The prop was a Knocky (Hollywood Florida) worked 24 chopper. The floors, stringer, and bulkheads were all redone (by myself) using marine ply and West System Epoxy. The boat did ~73 mph with that set up.
Nice looking boat. It's easy to see how much cockpit room these boats have. It's really great when you have 4-6 people on board.
Hey Mikey, what's doin with that thing, you hiting 70 plus yet???
And whats the motor, horsepower & set-up details?
Not to much time to run it yet, so far it will run 68 every day I go out still with the 24 trophy. Unfortunetly I am always out with a cooler, another person and all the other bs that comes along for the ride on sundays. I definately need to get teh time to dial it in and prop it out
Yes it is...hahaha.
I try to play good tunes cause when I get there everyone is going to hear it...lol
Highvelocity- your boat looks great in the pictures that Mike (venomous) posted!!!!!!!
68.9 hitting rev limiter like crazy is my best, I need to get a few more props i just do not have the time right now :nonod:
mikeylarge, when you get the time, you should consider trying a 26 chopper. Thanks for the update.
70.0 on the handheld and the autometer gps speedo tonight. I am still running the 24 trophy. The boat had about 1/4 tank of fuel and my friend eric . I have a 26 trophy on its way hopefully i can spin it!!!!
Mike,
I just tried a 26 big ear chopper and my boat actually went slower I lost 5-6 mph. The diameter on it is like 14.5, it's big. The diameter on the trophy is 13.25 I think, it's a lot easier to spin.
Ed
I have the exact same set up as Mike plus some weight.
I lost about 300-400 rpm. I have a hydro jack, so I raised it up an inch, then the RPM's started to rise, no extra speed. I went up another inch then it was spining close to 5,700 and no extra speed, so I went up a little more and she started to slow down.
I like choppers, but it seems with this boat, the 3 or 4 blade thru hub works good.
My boat really likes to chine walk whenever it gets the chance too. I have tried a 25p rev4, 25 bravo, 26p small ear chapper, 28x14 cleaver just because i had them available to me. All of these props made the boat feel like i was driving on ice. The trophy plus just runs so nicely that i really have no reason to change  I think i can spin the 26p trophy to 5800 or so b/c i spun the 25 rev4 to rev limiter also, and that is almsot 1 inch bigger in diameter. I am hoping to see 73-74 with the 26 trophy, I almost think i can hit 71-72 with the 24 if the revlimiter wasnt there:thumbsup:
Mikeylarge, I remember when I used to own my Velocity ,I found the 26 Trophy to be one of not only one of the best top speed props but one of the best all around handling props, I thought for sure a 26" tempest was going to run faster than the trophy 26 but that was not the case. I found that by knocking out all but one of the plugs helped the boat get on plane faster. I had my trophy blueprinted but made sure not to have the blades thinned. I picked up 3 mph by having the prop tweaked. Good luck,Frank
Thanks for the info :thumbsup::thumbsup:
73.6 today with my 26p trophy and i feel it had a little bit left in it:thumbsup:. I am still hitting the rev limiter so I want to try a 27p next.
I wish this picture wasnt so blurry

That would have been a killer pic. Looks like your trimmed up pretty high. Is that necessary to free her up?
I had it trimmed that high just for fun, I was running into the wind and we were taking pictures so I figured i would carry the nose up pretty high just to make a cool picture:thumbsup: But I can not run the boat much over 50 trimmed like that, the boat is just too loose. That was also 73.6 with 30 gallons of fuel in the boat, a spare prop, and a heavy tool box!!!!!!!
My rev limiter is only 5800:icon_bs:
You need to get a 250efi ignition computor to get the 6150 rev limit. I should have traded you mine for the cowl. Im running a 300pm on my 250.
I am going to play with the motor soon enough. I just want to see how fast I can go on a complete stock "fishing Motor" with a stock trophy prop. My goal is to hit 75 with all stock stuff:thumbsup:.
75.5 spinning a 28 trophy at 5200 , Going out wednesday night and I am going to see if i cant spin that prop a little better.... I do remember somewhere in this thread that someone said a bone stock 250 will not get a 22 velocity into the 80's. We might just get damn close with a 225 :D:D
Mikey, a 250 ecu should put you very close to 80 mph! With a 300 pm ecu, you'll have no trouble hitting 80.
76.1 still with my pops in the boat:thumbsup: It has more left in it I just have to find it!!!!!!!!!!!! It is nice to cruise at 70 now instead of 65!!!!!
