Yes. I put Boyeson reeds in my 2000 200 carb motor. The instructions say to wet sand the rubber cages flat on a piece of glass. It says it is ok if you sand through the rubber as long as it's flat
I lapped mine flat as flat gets. It takes a while but imo this is a worthwhile task. A good reed fit up makes for best building practices

Coat them in rubber and let the steel reeds beat themselves into place after q while.
They will seat pretty good thru the wty period. Then the rubber will dry rot and crack, the reeds will chip and go thru the motor .. by then it will be time for them to buy a brand new motor from us ... :eek: :nonod: :icon_bs:
Darn Chaz, Proof my memory is going! The 2.5 hand grenades were big fun but looking at the 3.0 reeds reminded me that once I went to the big blocks, I boated a lot more and overhauled a lot less. Be Well Buddy :thumbsup:

Dang, how did you get all the rubber off? On the one I messed with that rubber is tough. And it’s very thin. How do they get it to stick? And I worry about it coming loose. Thanks

I dry sanded a junk cage to test. Looks good and flat. Why wet sand? Would burning the rubber off weaken or warp the cage? I was thinking of using a propane torch. Seems there would be a lot of sanding after the rubber is removed?
