There was a pontoon on our lakes with one. My first thought was I hope the cowl does not leak. A lot of the engine looks to be under water. It could be trimmed up and a section of the swim platform raised as well. Not sure what to think about it.
Lots of acid heads N. of the boarder during the Viet-Nam conflict. Looks like some of em became toaster oven designers ... :o
So, you're thinking government subsidized rather than idiot investors? ;)
First thing most people want to do is show you their new toy. How do you do that when most of it is under water. Salt water will eat that alive.
BRP has a pretty solid track record with PWC's, and they end up upside down/ semi submerged quite frequently. They might know what they're doing.
force had the L drive 30 years ago but they only had 90hp powerhead!
I have seen at least 3 down here in South Louisiana. I too think the water over the cowl is not the best idea. I refer to it as Kitchen Aid design.
The pontoons themselves look cool but I read they are very flimsy built.

I look at that design and wonder how well that cover gasket will hold up. We all know most owners will not keep up with maintenance. I also wonder how failure rates would be effected by hard water and calcium/lime buildup.
If the engineering and testing was done right, being underwater is not an issue. IF.........
Raider Outboards in FL buys new Tohatsu 2S OBs from Japan and completely rebuilds them for our Special Forces. When Raider is finished with them they can be submerged for days in salt water, brought to the surface, purged and cranked to run perfectly. They will also run on any commonly available fuel ........... gas, diesel, JP fuel, anything. It just requires the proper know how.
Time will tell how ROTAX did.
I believe BRP bought Manitou to build the pontoons. Did quality tank in one year? Some of the nicest pontoons ive ever seen were Manitou. First time i saw a pad on a toon was Manitou. They call them lifting strakes now. Anyways i havent seen one of these ghost drives yet. I did go on a switch jet toon. Nice for what it is. Owner said it drank gas like crazy
Had a customer try to jump a beaver hut with one of these suckers earlier last month; replaced a gear case to find out the gear drive under the hood is wasted. Waiting on parts; our tech's our super excited about cracking that one open.
