I'm trying to rebuild my lower unit on my 1991 Mercury 200 hp. How do you remove the bearing carriers around the drive shaft? Is it a pry out with two screws method? I will try and attach a pic thanks.

I never seen a blue piece like that before, should just be a steel right with 4 inside teeth for you to put a special tool in to unscrew it and then you can pull the driveshaft straight up
The water pump base broke into two pieces. The only thing holding it is the o ring and the accumulation of corrosion.
Yes, all you can do is pry with two screw drives or the like. Be careful not to dent or damage the housing.
You will need a new pump base.
You can see the top of the o ring. The bore it is sitting in is beveled to compress the o ring on installation. The below is the surface the o ring seals on. They are the two surfaces to be careful not to dent. Also do not pry from bridge piece with RTV on it.
Ah yes thats the base of the water pump, maybe drill 2 or 4 screws into it and see if you can then pull up on it with come vice grips?
Great info guys. Thanks
drain plug removed ?? take your a shop air plug in your air nozzel insert in to drain hole move your head away from lower pump part then find it when it blows out
I have popped them out with a pressure tester too. But I'd rather use two tools then clean up stinky ass gear lube from everywhere.
I love a good explosion.
Rock
