On my 1991 Mercury 200 hp i'm having some issues with alarms going off. I've been trying to diagnose the oil pump as the issue. The input shaft spins while turning the powerhead showing the drive gear is still working as it should. I've spun up the oil pump using a drill with the actuator in the full throttle position and no oil comes out of the outlet side. Does the pump need the pressure of the small tank to actually get it to push oil?
Not sure how to fix it but we will all tell you to ditch it. Mix your own oil at 50:1 under 6k rpm. 40:1 over that
Heading that way eventually but it's worked so well the last 8 years with no issues. At this point it's just curiosity trying to figure out what went wrong. THanks
IF you are having any oil pump issues, DELETE the oil injection.

It doesn't need any "pressure feed" to work, but you're looking for like a "drop" of oil at a time at idle speeds (your drill).Quote:

Well, the alarm only sounds if the module doesn't sense the pump shaft turning or the oil is low in the reservoir... it doesn't know if oil is actually flowing into the motor so I doubt that's going to be your issue?
There's a reason why a guy with almost 8000 posts and I are telling you to yank it. But hey, it's your motor......
I appreciate the fact that allot of experienced individuals say delete the oil system. I'm running the boat on mixed oil and gas cans anyways now. I'm just curious what the problem may be. After i've thrown away some money on this then I will feel better about giving up. If and when I do give up how do I monitor engine temps without the alarm module in place? I have a water pressure gauge but it doesn't alarm to draw my attention when underway.
as a long time Mercury V6 only motor rebuild shop it was not hard for me to sell the LOSE THE AUTO OILER to every customer i had because about 75/80% off all rebuilds i did were auto oiler fails so it was a no brainer;) as for hot horn just about every motor came with one some were in the control box others were in the wire harness but had them none the less, if yours is not working i do recommend fixing it because you are right gauges become no issues and lull you into no observation stupor after a while you just dont look at them so a loud noise is required to snap us back to the surface they are on ebay most of the time but any 12 volt horn can be wired in GOOD LUCK
This may sound ghetto but I'm going to wire in a shift light or similar to my overheat alarm and mount it in my dash because I recently lost my external plumbing on my nosecone while runnING 70+ and only heard the damn alarm when I slowed down. Motor is OK but my nerves were shot at almost having toasted my beloved 200. And I'm also moving my water psi gauge to a better location.Quote:

Would there be any reason for gas to be in this part of the block? its on the bottom of the VST canister its the small L shaped fitting going back to mota with a little chicken squat vinyl hose on it
