2.0 1750 exhaust chest

I really like the way the old 1750's run. They had the big open exhaust chest and large exhaust outlets at the adapter. The next generation 2.0 had a lot more stuffing in the exhaust chest. It has the "ant trails" along with the top of the chest cavity being closed off where it was previously open.

I got to looking at one of my 1750 blocks and an old '81 150 block I had laying around. I got out the grinder and spent a few minutes roughing out the chest and exhaust outlet...

I'm thinking this may have better flow and more stuffing than the original 1750 configuration so it should run better? If I can scrape together enough parts to assemble an engine I may finish this block out and put it together...

Wellllll just an old fool here......but the early ones had cooling probs..... so Drill thru the water chest to the cly and keep it cool..... jst me....SAY where? just look and drill.......The early ones had 3 rings.... ya got those?.... of corse put on a 2.4 hozz .....front....

Ya see..... the gasket surface is straight.... not updated.....the holes are small.... and don't flow like newer blocks/ with the added 2 bolts .....gasket.....style.......straight...... not bigger where water goes to /from... explat to clys.... hard to xplane..... just look at a newer style one..... hey I think I going to have a strong drink........and grind me some ports..........heehee......rase em......

I have a horizontal front I could throw at it but I get plenty of RPMs out of the vertical. It looks like I can shave a LOT off the vertical front, maybe .100-.150? I think the ope chest with the horizontal front might make the bottom too soggy. Maybe it needs finger ports...

If ya going to all the work of FPing....why....not just go hozzz.....more bang for the buck......the pix I took is not my work...... Never spent so much time making things Purdy.....Do you have the tuna for said old Merc? Big ol boxy....?

yep, it's integrated into the plate. I have a few of the old style motors.

Who ya calling OLD.......HeeHee...... where did the last 40 years go..... when merc did a v.......

Nitro_Rat, since you have it apart, can you tell me the wall thickness on the steel liner in the early block?

Wall thickness....1/4 or more.....I melted a 2.0 block in the wood pile..... those jugs are big an heavey..... never goin to move as the ports are cast on the jug

I got a vertical front with carbs if you or someone needs 1.

The 1750 works good in our roundy rounds.
We modify the exhaust exit to fit easier to find 1 piece plates.

I checked a few of different vintages and they were all around .200
