Formula 2.4 Value
Attachment 417030Howdy,
I've got a 1980 Formula 2.4 liter MERC on a 20' Sleakcraft tunnel my dad and I bought new. She used to run 92 with the motor jacked up, the rear and passenger seat removed and just a little gas. Since he didn't have much gas onboard, my Dad just floated around waiting for a Bass or Jet boat that wanted to try him haha. Long story short, the boat has been sitting many years and is need of restoration that I'll never get to so I plan to sell it.
So what do y'all think the motor is worth? The serial number is 5160218, I fired it up the other day and it still screams. Sorry about the sideways pic.

serial number pulls up a 1979 200hp. I'd give ya $750 for it if you'd meet me in Waco!

Wow, I was hoping for some opinions, I wasn't expecting offers right out of the box! I was always under the impression it was 240HP and the title says 80. I do know it would turn 6200 with a 28" pitch prop. The number on top of the carbs is 1374-5427, here are the powerhead pics. The more I mess with it the more I still love it.

Yep 2.4 200 vertical motor pre 83. Head bolts in sleeve and not the block. Carbs will have a WH 31,WH 22 for example on top of carb ,above or below the number u posted (cant remember exactly. Year model 80 would be the vertical 200, air box dead giveaway, only vertical motor had those types, 225 had the horizontal but was 7 pedal I believe, lots to (go fast) guys do the light weight cowl swap and it looks cool!

I had 1 or 2 of those. They had choke butterflys instead of a primer, no oil injection and no finger ports in the pistons. When mercury switched to propshaft horsepower ratING that motor became the 175. Last one of those I took apart had wh14 on it I think

Will have aluminum flywheel. The heads will have a stamp .100 on the top, they were factory cut,and require 100 octane. The vertical reeds are plastic.Timing was shipped @ 25 degrees.187 preload gear case.would have also came with a blue holly pump,Merc 10,000 rpm tach, and buyers choice of chopper or cleaver prop. $3400 in 1979 Merc called them 240 power head HP.
