I have read countless post but yet can find an exact answer om what I need. So I've got a 1994 mariner 200 efi with brand new ecu. Boat runs excellent. But in idle in neutral it's idling great right st 900-1000 rpms, which yea night be a little high. But as soon as I put it in gear it drops so low to the point it wants to die if I don't give it a little gas. Any ideas what is causing this? Is there a way to adjust the idle in gear without raising the idle in neutral?
Also I just noticed I believe I have a low speed miss up to about 1500 rpms
Start with all testing basics on electrics ,low speed miss under 1500 sounds like stator, but I've had switch box do same thing , would kick back in after 12 or 1500
They've all been gone through. And it gas newer switch boxes. I removed the oil injection so I ain't too sure if it's running a little lean. I just wanna increase the idle in gear and not while it's in neutral if that's possible
Removing the oil injection won’t effect the mixture rich or lean...
If it has a miss something is wrong and start with plugs and find the cyl ,needs b idled down not up ,,once u fix the missing issue ,it will idle normal again, you will tear gears out of lower if you idle it any higher and shift while running
Follow up.... did u straighten it out?
Im not sure. Checked tps and it was way off. Hell the whole throttle linkage was screwy. It read.06 at idle and 6.85 at wot. Adjusted and still was getting 7.46 at wot. So come to find out I was getting full throttle. But than I messed up. Was following the mercury service manual and misinterpreted it adjusting the throttle and ended up moving my wot timing screw. And I've never timed a motor and very uneasy about timing one. I checked it with a light and it was saying wot timing was at.200 and it should be lik.130 (22•). Now I didn't find TDC I just lined up the.462 mark with the marker and checked it. So idk how accurate was but I know for a fact I didn't move the screw all the much. So I havent been able to take the boat out cuz I'm kinda worried about the timing
Better at least double check your WOT timing on #1 - pull out all the plugs, ground all the plug leads to the block and crank it over at WOT with your timing light on it. Pull a degree or two out of it if you're unsure how accurate your TDC mark is. Also good idea to write/number the TDC's of the 5 other cyls on the flywheel (even if you just use a screwdriver down the plug hole to work out each TDC close enough). It's real handy to spot if it's double firing.
As gmacrea said , pull plugs and ground them , unhook the throttle cable and with your hand move the arm to wot, now shoot light while cranking, while light is flashing move the arm with ur hand until u see 23* ,then go back up to the timing stop and readjust
I'll try it when I get off work. Would either of you happen to know the degree of tge markings. It's goes from.410 to .310 to.210. Is each not in between 20 degrees?

Nope. It's got the.462 and than bdtc is like a described and the atdc is the same but only up to.210. It's the stock flywheel. I read some post that kinda mentioned the wot degree should be at.150. But I couldn't find anywhere it describes the marking very accurately

Awesome I'll give it a shot after I get off work. Hopefully the pointer was off a little cuz Me being at.200 was way off lol
