Hello all,
This was left on my bench after finishing my 2000 9HP Merc short block.. I was wondering if it fell out of somewhere around the water jacket area, thought I knew these motors inside and out. But this? This is a mystery part and have searched for hours trying to find its home.
Any ideas, anyone, where this could have come from? This part has a small hole at the end with some rust color around the seal area.

It definitely plugs into a hole. Looks like a bumper or stop. Part number on it? Lol

That's what I thought initially.. No part number (that would have been easy) It appears that water passes through this.
I'll attach two more pics, top and bottom.

Optional remote control plug in the lower cowl????? Throttle linkage stop????? Tiller elbow stop????? Upper cowl something????? Cowl latch stop?????
Give us the motors serial # and I will try to help out.
On the inside, there is a rusty water ring, so I believe water passes through this as some sort of a water restrictor.
There are no signs of another part rubbing or striking this as a stop or some kind of bumper. I've checked Factory
Merc Service Manual, parts manual and found nothing that resembles this, BUT, merc installs flow restrictors at the factory
that may or may not be in the parts book, service manual or online.
This is making me nuts!
Are you running in brown water, where would the rust come from? Fell out of the lawnmower
Anyone out there recognize this part? I'll assume it did not come form the 90 HP Merc?
