From the home of the Vikings ? Whole area up that way is peopled with mariners since historical times.
Lot's of fast and cool stuff produced there.
There is a guy in Gävle, Sweden called Mikael Lundblad who in the 1990's converted a Hydrolift R-20 v-pad race hull to a stepped race hull - the Hydrostep. 1st pic is a Hydrolift R-20 as I could not find a pic of the original Hydrostep...

The Hydrostep was a very efficient and successful design so it was made into a RIB - the RIB Unlimited 700. If you mate the top pic deck with the pic below hull you get the picture. ;)

The Hydrostep 696 is Lundblad's latest hull. I followed the build on a Swedish boating board, very interesting.
I just noticed in the first post that the hull weighs 228kg (500lbs) 23ft.
A lot of cool boats over there. I've been following this manufacturer:

The Deflector 23 also looks good (Petestep Design). 80mph with 115HO ?! :

All very cool boats and designs. Any idea of the construction methods they use besides the infusion? Type of core and glass, resin?
.
looks like the Deflector and the Hydrostep are both being built by Vaxholm Komposit AB?
the two pics below seem to be the same shop

and here are both boats :)

Yes they are. Interestingly, the Petestep design of the Deflector seems like really new technology. The idea is to deflect the spray behind the boat & not on the sides:

.
I'd like to understand how the technology works

The HydroStep 696 (23') performed good. We hit the rpm limit going 72 mph with a Merc F115proXS with a Hydromotive 26" with 2 crew and full race equiped. With more pitch and one crew high 70 are possible.

Boat rides on second and mostly on last step. CG just in front of second step (with crew).
For Pete's sake
COOL
The bat boat to compare,
do the two designs race against each other?
