Got New Prop Today in the mail.

Just opened up the box I just received from Canada Propellers in Ottawa Canada. :D Its a 26 pitch TRO4 very pretty prop. very nice finish. I called tech and was talking to the guy there and he said that these are the original trophys. that mercury took there desing and made the trophy from this prop. So since i like the Trophys ill probably like this one. He said it will act like a worked Trophy. Better hole shot and mid range than a stock trophy as they have added cup and a little more rake so should also carry a load better. 13.75 dia same as trophy and blades look very very close in shape if not the same. Come standard with a defusser ring built into it also. Blades are very stout and the roll they use at the tip for cup is very well done. The hub is there Cushionlok assembly that in my case for 15 spline merc small shaft. Very affordable prop for what you get i would say? I paid 650 total with shipping and tax Canadian. Prop was 580, 69 tax and free shipping. Thats with pressed in hub and there thust washer for merc. They have hub kits for any motor shaft combo. 4 Vent holes also. Fully loaded prop . When I go test it ill add to this thread and let ya know what I think? For reverence my favorite props are Performance Drag3 and Drag4,s , Mercury Trophys 25 and 27 in particular. for loads like passengers and full fuel. Ive also loved 2 out of 5 Steve Smith Off Shore Cuts. The best one was cut from an MazcoRE3 26. Its worth mentioning they have a 30 day exchange program and a 1 year warranty. If I find the pitch is not right or the prop s wrong i can change it to another pitch or type for a small restocking fee. Hears some pics of the new prop. A bit better than Jaco's for a 25 Trophy. $495 US which is $620 Cdn plus shipping. And you have no border to deal with. I work in Detroit and live in Windsor so I get my stuff shipped to the office.

i am with you on Trophys. I have a stock 26 and a Steve Smith worked 28.

So,, Merc copied Powertech and then Powertech added rake and cup.

Not sure about that one. lol The Trophy doesn't Have as much cup or rake as the Powertech but from what ive seen they have always ran a bit taller so im guessing PT have always had more cup? So I dont think as your saying power tech added rake or cub after Mercury copied there design. The tech on the line at Power Tech told me after i said i liked the trophy that then ill like this one because the trophy is a copy of the TRO4 was all? So unless hes bull smacking me thats all I got to go buy. haha Ive been trying to find out when the Trophy's first came on the scene i think it was the 90,s hard to find that info ? These PowerTechs 1986. But nothing conclusive I want to know this for sure now also!! haha I think there is a alot of this copy cat stuff that goes on in props? Any way dont know how she runs yet and probably wont until late Saturday or Sunday now. Ill be at the lake for 3 weeks straight starting saterday. After I take the beat up old trophy for a look see as to how the lake is for logs and such if its all clear then ill start running the newer stuff. :cheers: Im very curious to try it. Ive heard good and bad just like about everything else out there so i guess like the old saying goes ya cant try to many props. :] we will see.

Dave check this out!! I almost fell of the stool! haha I went down to the locl Merc Dealer hear in Prince George to price out props to buy in Canada. This is what he showed me on the screen! I said what about with my discount. he said they couldn't on these. haha Thats why i started looking at trying see what was available in decent quality for less. The Solas scorpion is also a nice prop for alot less. But they dont come with vents and apparently need them to perform better. Was looking for right out of the box for cheep. haha The drag 3 and Drag 4 are arguably the best bang for the buck props on the market i have found that work great right out of the box. The drag3 works amazing on our Allisons!! A 28 Drag3 with our combo GS 225 is simply awesome!! Was my favorite prop until my shaft snapped and its at 500ft on the bottom of the lake now. I will get another this winter. haha. 625 new from performance Props. Hears the invoice for a 27 Trophy in Canadian dollars. What a rip off!! So for half the price if this Powertech is even 90% of what a trophy is thats ok. lol After Tax the Trophy would be 1271.12 !!! Attachment 381650Attachment 381651

Maybe I should try a 28 drag 3. My worked 28 Trophy will run over 90 (I stop there) and carries me and my brother up front mid 80's without even thinking to raise the engine. I just need to figure out how to install the vent plugs.

Dave Pally at Pally performance in Sakatoon will do better discounts on Merc performance props.
Alberta Marine (near Okotoks, Alberta) also does deep discounts on Merc props. The list prices are kind of scary.

Good to know thanks Matt first time buying a prop in Canada. Just waiting on the trust washer they sernt thee wrong one. Will have it on the boat tomorrow hopefully.

Well finally tryed the prop out today. Zero spool up just grabs and goes. tons of lift I mean tons!!! Lol I tryed it at even with the pan and maybe I'll be able to like it there but wow she lifted the whole hull so high I'll reserve that running when I know I won't encounter a boat wake.haha she liked 1\4 below a lot better and easy peezy to drive. Very smooth. Very little trim also. I was exactly neutral trim to 87 mph. I wasn't watching the rpm I was more focussed on water pressure and temps this feeler time out. Have to play around more with it to check rpm and stuff like that. I would say it has way more lift than my trophy. Way more. Requires way less trim. Hole shot is real nice because its so easy to keep the bow up with all that lift even with stock
Slow trim.

So are these available with a torque flow hub design for less money or you must specify what shaft you need?

One of the Merc dealers here in Edmonton was quoting around 900CAD for Trophy+ last year, He had some old stock 23P Trophy+'s he was clearing for $450 so I picked one up and use it for pulling tubes, I'd like a 25P Trophy+ for all round use although pulling tubes with a 27Trophy+ isn't that bad.

Sounds like I'd want a 24 or maybe 25 in one of these TRO4s?

Ya pretty sure you just get what ever shaft ya have small or fat. User there hub ,pressed in rubber. I'm not sure if thee come open to use a flow torque you would have to ask. For the money they are pretty darn great!! I see you have a checkmate 250 xs combo.that's what thought of the first 10 min with this 26 because of thee huge lift!! I like lift for passengers and even solo because I need less trim. An Allison GS could use less lift but I like it with the small HP. 260 or 280 on a GS way to much lift. 200 225 pertfict for as load carry prop. They easy they run a pitch tall? When i look at my rpm next time I'll see if I can notice that using a calculator.

Just dont buy a stock Powertech and expect the pitch to be right. Theyre quality control is all over the place. Its so bad that if you have twins and need a set you have to order a matched set from them and they still usually have to go to a shop to get matched up. My buddy is a dealer for them and every one goes to Rich Junker to get fixed before it even gets shipped to the customer.

Ya Mr Demeanor that's a good plan. Just got back in with this one again and its really hard to get used to. Sooooo much lift below the pad and at even better but lifts so much water pressure is a bit of an issue. Checked the slip and at 75 mph I was only turning 6000 rpm. 5 slip. With a load which I haven't tryed yet I'm thinking it will be great a little to much lift solo on my Allison. Still trying to figure it out wake boats are making it hard to string it out long enough to really find thee sweet spot.

Had a little better water this morning to look at the tach better . At 85 mph I was only turning 6500 rpm. The lift was pertfict at that rpm. I could probably trim to more speed and rpm but the feel and hight of the hull felt normal and wasn't really in the mood to bump it up and explore blow out trim to find its limits. Lol on home waters with no chance of hitting a wake boat wake. Anyway that is 1.85 slip. Stiff prop for sure. Quite a good prop for the money. I can see this being outstanding on a checkmate ,Progression, superboat or the 21 Allison Basser ect.. Any hull 1000 lbs pluss these results were at 3\8 bellow. Seems to be a nice sweet spot.

If only you knew the real pitch....I have heard everyone talk about how "stiff " these props are. Marked at 26p but really more like 28p? Nice prop anyway, and cool it does what you want.
