Had a melt down last year. Is there some kind of slow painful way to remove this stubborn melted aluminum from my cylinders. Muriatic Acid works ok when the aluminum is really thin. Its in my exhaust and on the tops of the other two pistons.
If you have a piston lying around, I could use one.
in tha case of that one its called a "new sleeve".........
I'm sure your right as usual. I just didn't want to have 5 chromes and one steel.
there is a ton of 'em runnin' around..... can be fixed/new plate for $$$

What caused it, a lean out?
I have no liner in my midsection. This was prior to me owning it. I was just cruising along, motor was perfect and it just stopped dead like i shut the key off.
A few weeks later I took off the CLE to make sure it didn't lock up instead, and I noticed that I couldn't see daylight through the lower unit. Ended up being the rubber liner gasket wasn't taken out of the midsection and it got lodged down low in the midsection right at the 90 degree turnout and completely blocked my exhaust system. I guess you can call it an extreme lean situation.
Thats my theory anyways. and the welch plug is puffed upwards too.
Wow, and the other five or even the other top one didn't burn . I guess their had to be a first one to hit the melting point. It happens fast enough to kill it and stay ahead of another melting. The others couldn't have been far behind .
check for out of round.
Forget trying to remove the alloy. If you could get it off you would find the cylinder badly out of round.Been there many times with customer engines trying to save a chrome or nicasil bore just to find the bore egged. Bite the bullet and sleeve or replate.
Spend the $900 and have 6 fresh cyls with plating, (USChrome),.....it's only money, why else do we mess with these things!!
Replate job is more than 900. I have had a few done and i think they are approaching 1200 plus freight.

I don't know how the chrome bores work, but if that was nic it would need a sleeve
