I Am Looking For Opinions On Putting 2 300X Motors On My Cougar 22MTR!!
As title states I am considering putting a second 300X, which I already have from my last 22MTR that Euroski now owns, so I am looking for opinions either positive or negative on doing this. Both motors are 20" O/S models and the 2004 currently on the boat has about 10 hours on a factory replacement long block and the 2003 will be a fresh re-build. They will have left and right Sportmasters with 1.62:1 gears. I with also reduce the setback and still use 6" Bob's jackplates. There has been only one to my knowledge 22MTR with twin 300Xs on it and it is out in Washington state. If have tried to contact the owner but I have been able to talk to him to get his opinion. Bob Cruse has one with twin 280s on it. My plan is to run HC6345 SeaStar Pro cylinders with a SeaStar Pro tilt helm, wing plates and a tie bar. I live on a small lake and it if the wind picks up, the boat stays on the lift. Otherwise I would have bought Steve's 23MTR. Let me hear your comments on here or by e-mail at [email protected]
Thank you in advance your opinion
Gary

The transom is solid with bracing into the stringers according Bob Cruse who has the twin 22 and had a single engine 22, the construction was the same on both boats. Keep the feedback coming.
Thanks

I was planning to do some extra bracing. I would appreciate your input if you want to e-mail me your thoughts directly at [email protected]
Thanks

Two knee braces are not enough for 280's and definitely not enough for 300s on a Cougar.

You have a great looking Daytona. How fast does it run with the twin 300XS motors? It looks like the transom has aluminum or stainless steel plates for extra support. How many 22 Daytonas did they build with twins? I like the 1/4 canopies as well.
Thanks

Great feedback so far but I would always take more. If you don't want to post here, you can e-mail me at [email protected] with suggestions on how to re-work the transom to deal with the extra weight.
Thanks

I will certainly into the insurance. I have had all my boats insured with the same company for 25 years and the motor that is apart in my garage is fully insured as well but I will check out before I decide to go ahead with the project.

I know that finding a good balance will mean moving batteries, pumps and oil tanks more forward or adding weight up in the bow, this is why I started this thread to begin with to collect ideas from the knowledgeable members on here that have done it before.
Keep the thoughts coming.
Thanks
Gary
