How many would buy a modernized 21' Skater copy?

How many of you would seriously buy a modernized 21' Skater copy?

My husband and I get a lot of calls on people weighing between a new 22 Talon or a 21 Skater copy. Since no one is building a 21 Skater copy (that I know of in the US), I wanted to ask this question.

If we widened the 21 Skater copy, lengthened it to 22 feet, installed a molded in windshield and I know my husband has talked about a whole array of changes. How many people would be interested in these bare hulls for $22,000 range?

get ready for the firestorm. the work "copy" will get some peoples feathers ruffled up. the only think that will stop me form buying one is my career choice does not pay enough money for me to buy one.

To be politically correct, it is a 21 Xtreme hull copy. That is the boat that would be the donor.

I wanted to add to this guys. Let's keep this post simple please. The 21 Skater boat has been copied almost as many times as the Talon 25 was. The 21 Skater is no longer in production and has been out of production for a long time, there is no patent, and it is no longer covered by the Splash Laws.

Please don't let my wife regret starting this post.

This post was started so she can learn more about this forums user's likes and dislikes and whether we should pursue a model like this. I had washed my hands of this project a while ago, but now that she is getting more involved on the boat side, she is trying to learn more as she is talking to the customer's more than I am. 22 is the number to get in LOTO shootout if that helps drives sales at all. ;)

I will say this I own two of the most copied boats around and that was back in the 70's to early 80's. One the hull was splashed from Glastron and the decks copied by so many I can't remember. The other helped start the mod VP hull race boat of the late 70-early 80's...I am kinda proud to own one of the few 16 footers that was rated at 150HP for some reason. Then one of 29 or so hull ever built by Taylor of California

Seeing as how Skater is on longer around and in short you are proposing a modern hull to today's specs, technique and material I would say go for it. They are more for larger bodies of water than I have available to me but I would think there would be plenty up and down the East coast, OBX and down to Florida that you sale enough to pay for the molds and turn a slight profit and maybe better.

I don't see anything wrong in Re Creating a version of something that used to be built back when XWYZ boats were popular....

If I had the cash for a new hull it would be the 22 talon over the Skater

I'd rather have an Argo/Twister variant, than a 21 Skater. The Talon is leaps and bounds ahead of the Skater for my personal needs.

Build a 24' single like a twister. 21 Skater is feels slow and awkward in comparison. They don't turn well either

Yes they are expensive and that is because of the materials and the layup schedule.
I didn't realize how special his schedule was until I cut some flush mount cleats into the deck of a 32 classic.

It looks like two layers of carbon on the top. Balsa core then Kevlar on the bottom. I can't believe how light and strong this cut out is!
Every hull is weighed after they come out of the mold and is recorded using the Hull ID.
I don't think you can find a lighter and stronger hull.

Peter still has the molds.
He will build you one, but it is going to cost you.

Personally, would love to see a new outboard cat in the 24'-26' range.

Something like a Twister is a no brainer. Thing is a hot rod, can stuff the old lady some friends and cooler in it. Would like to see the level of finish better than what comes from Europe and some super high end interior and that would be a sweet ride

22/23 with a 400r would be cool I bet
