13' TwisterCraft With Merc 150HP Inline With NOS

I just picked up this 1980 13' TwisterCraft. It has a 140 or 150HP Inline 6 with Land & Sea Nitrous kit. I was told the motor was a 150XS. Still trying to find out if it is a 140Hp or 150HP. Best I can tell It has a T-2 Mid and a 1:1 Speedmaster on it. The boat looks NEW. Not one scuff or scratch in the hull. It was used for drag racing and been stored inside. The deck is paper thin. I was told it is a hare over 200 lbs de rigged. It Came with a 16" and 18" cleaver for it. Here are some photos. I talked with xskid on the board that has the brother to this one and has been helpful. Anyone with any dragracing history or more info on this let me know.

Damm nice score their buddy, put up pictures of the other little one you have.

A 13' V with a 6 cyl Mercury is a good way to get wet hard.

Nitros on an inline 6 Merc is a good way to blow powerheads

If it is a 1500XS powerhead it will have a J stamped in the block near the serial # on the R side

It has other T2 components besides the mid and speedmaster. Could it be a T2 block with a front half change? All 1400 and 1500 blocks were painted black from the factory. Any early block that would have been silver would have had the wrong bolt pattern to fit the mid. It is painted silver for the wrong year or it is a T2 block. If some one modified a T2 crank for a 3 carb front the firing order is different. Compare it to the firing order printed on the water jacket cover around the sparkplugs. You can do it by tracing the plug wire position if it runs properly as they are arranged or by sticking a screwdriver in the plug holes as you rotate the engine by hand and see the order that they come to the top. It could still be a T2 block with std crank. T2 block would not have slot in cyl walls for power port in pistons but neither would an early 1400 or 1150.

Whatever it is it is very cool.

A deflector in front of the carbs will make it more predicatable and easier to jet right. These engines do not like ram air.

The early bolt pattern motors(125/135) will fit some C6 (T2) mids. I don't think that is what you have though. I think Mariah is on the right track. I have some early T2's and C6 and they have the cast finned exhaust cover like you have(they look like 135/150 covers). The later ones have a solid aluminum plate for a cover. I would guess it is a 140/150 that someone removed the paint. I was hoping you would post something about this boat. I saw it listed on your list of boats. It is a beautiful boat!! Have you ran it yet?

I have not run it yet. We have 3 feet of ice on the lakes and I just got it. I am not having any luck finding the serial number on the block. Any ideas??

Some of the early 1400 came painted silver ( up to serial #3295133 ? ), I got one 1400 with silver block..

Could it be a replacement block ??

Sounds reasonable :thumbsup:, look at the flywheel ...got multiple T2/T2x flywheels and none of the got any paint ...

Anyway.. It looks like something I could have put together :), it's a good mix of part from different engines....

Early Speedmaster ( Patent Pending ), years before the C6/T2 engines ? .
T2 mid .
T2/T2x flywheel .
T2/T2x electronics or maybe just inspired by ??
1400/1500 block ?, painted silver ..
Carbs and dist looks 1400/1500 ..


The block should have some casting numbers , those might help.
Got any numbers from those carbs ?, WMK-??

I have read on here before that some of the early 140's were silver, I bought a used 140 off a tunnel boat in 74/75 but it was black. Mercury did a lot of weird stuff.

OK here is what I have for numbers. The block is bare no paint. top left orange paint top right green paint. Casting looks like 852-7328 or 7326. Has a H in a circle and 380 in a circle.

Head 1023 5068 380 C in a circle Also has a 102 stamp on front of block and front half as matching them as a pair.

Front half 948-6262

Carbs WMK-14-1-2
WMK-14-2-2
WMK-14-3-2

Head looks like it may be black under the silver.

I can not find a serial number anywhere

Any help is great.

That boat is a copy of a Checkmate MX13. I ran Action Marine versions of that boat in E & G Production classes back in the 70s. Watch yourself in that thing. Sudden loss of thrust either from prop blowout or just lifting off throttle too quick can cause the boat to try to swap ends. The problem was worse with the small 65 hp gearcase than with the larger 85 hp unit. Good luck with it and post pics when you run it.

Did that boat come out of Pa.?? One like that has been displayed at Mt. Dora for several years-the guy is a long term member here.

72 140's were silver. nitrous on an inline..ooo. I would for sure have a talk with Chuck Goodman about his systems and put another tank in the boat for a methanol chaser.

don't see that nitrous being engaged anytime soon...if it's right, it'll be plenty fast without it.

I don't think I am going to use the NOS. It does have 2 solinoids one for the nitrous and another for extra fuel/oil mix.
It should go good without it. I was told they used the NOS for the the hole shot.
