trying to find out what is more stable and which is faster
YT came on Vking and Valero. XT came on several of the 20 foot hulls. On the XT, the center pad was lower than the side sponsons. The YT all three points are wet at full speed. XT will have less drag, while the YTs are on smaller boats. I am sure there will be debate on this....
V bottom. :D
Ron you worried that jimmy will out run you in a bowrider! maybe that is why you almost cut it in half...Fear the YT...
Topend XT.
Like FlowMaxx said. You are comparing a 18ft boat(YT) and a 20ft boat(XT). If both boats had a 260 on them my money would be on the YT. It would also be easier to drive for most people.
The YT has more wetted area, but there's also less weight pushing against the water.
I think they're pretty close, each with its own quirks. Each individual boat is a different animal from the next one. They didn't all weigh the same.
-One fellow from NJ had a Valero YT that ran 92 with a 225 Promax.
-Another guy had a Vking YT that ran well over 105 with a 15" 260 (modded??)
-My Vegas XT has done 95 mph GPS with an old stock 240hp Bridgeport.
A guy with a Valero YT and a stock 2.5 260 couldn't out-drag OR outrun my boat from a roll in 800 feet, but he's a heavier guy than me. Power-to-weight ratio plays a big role here, but less drag also gives the XT a special advantage. Once the XT breaks the sponsons loose around 65 mph, it's gone like a rocket.
Thats 1 Bad Azz bow rider, Fear the YT!!!
the two worst things in life are paint remover and a pressure washer
I have driven both, from my experience YT is more stable since all three sponsons touch at speed. There are a few guys on here that have been 110 plus in a YT with a stock 280, it takes 320+hp to run in the 100-105 range in an XT.
My xt/strong 2.4 200 with bolt ons was slower then jenksam's YT with a stock 150.
The YT supposedly hits a brick wall around 110, no matter how much power you hang on it.
It's all about individual setups and power-to-weight ratio.
I'll bet I could drive a Vegas XT over 100 with a stock 280. I weigh 125 lbs. :D
Add a 150 lb. passenger, and you can expect to lose an instant 10 mph.
Obviously, solo driver weight and fuel load plays just as much of a role.
Both bottoms are an aerodynamically imperfect design with respect to the sponsons turning inward, versus the LTV and others which are straight.
These are NOT tunnel boats. They're essentially V-hulls with outriggers.
YT always!
