new small boats

I read the "New Viper" thread with interest. There are some new small boats being made in Ontario. Rather than distract from that thread, I put my thoughts here.

You can of course buy a Voo Doo, which is smaller than the Viper

And there is the Tuff 16, which is a similar size to the Viper. I thought my brother was going to buy one, but then he priced motors LOL.

There are a few new engines you could put on a Tuff 16 or Viper

90 Suzuki 4 stroke 341 lb, > 60 mph on the Tuff 16
Tohatsu 90, 315 lb
Evinrude 115 HO, 375 lb
Merc 115, 375 lb

I'd think 375 would be a lot of weight for either a Viper.

Wow, that is a great looking boat! I have an old Viper, but I would definantly buy the Tuff 16 if I was looking for a new small boat.

The tuff 16 is a very cool boat, I like how the rear hatch hides the rear seats when not in use. :cool:

That's my point exactly why I think bringing back the Viper is a bad idea. It needs to be different like this Tuff 16.

Guys how much does a OMC V6 weigh? Ive seen Vipers with them and others on them, and how much does my 1982 140 V4 Johnson......I know it weighs like 300 something, so why would 375 be too much/... Im confused....if it can hold a v6 it can hold a V4.....

A cross flow V6 runs around 381 lb

I did forget the 90 Yamaha. An excellent choice, but I bet it isn't around much longer. Buy now! The 90 Yamaha should be faster than the 90 Suzuki.

I also left out the part about going 42 mph with 40 HP. The Tuff 16 and the Voo Doo will both do that. Canada limits under 16 year olds to 40 HP.

WOW, 42mph with a 40, that is killer.......That Tuff 16 is awesome, wish it was rated for a 115, that would be a true little muscle boat...

The Tuff 16 would rock with a 115 HO. And how many of us already have 'overpowered' our boats? I would be comfortable with a 115, and I bet it would still be insurable.
