The boat I just purchased has a 200hp Merc with a aftermarket performance lower end. The water pick up is on the bottom of the nose cone. So my question is how can I run the motor unless I have it in the water? I'd like to run it before I take it out just to be sure not to mention running it for tune ups and such....

Depending on whos nosecone it is, some have a flush adapter for them. Or you could make one.
Bob's makes a little rubber thingy that hooks over those pickup holes. Cost like 10 bucks.

Not supposed to run the engine when you're running water through the flush fitting....it's for flushing the block only.
Rickracer has an adaptor that fits over the CLE type units. you can run the engine with this adaptor, it simply supplies water to the water pump itself and the water pump does the work. Rickracer advertizes on S & F. Capnzee:)
Are you talking about the one that hooks directly to the block? Because if it is the flusher that mounts to the LWP that your talking about how do you think the water is going to get through the water pump, go up the tube, all through the block and heads without running it?Quote:

I think hydrosports 205 is talking about a flush fitting mounted above the water pump as in the block. If that is the case, you probably wouldn't want to try to run the engine while flushing. This could be the case in a "tight" area where noise is a problem but you would like to flush the top end without running the engine. You cannot get water past the water pump without running the engine when you are using the typical "muffs" or "sleeve" that fits over the water intake. This is a "noisy" situation and not possible in all parts of the country!:) Capnzee
In a pinch I've trimmed my motor down into a wheelbarrow full of water with a hose running into the wheel barrow. With my motor height and angle of my driveway I was able to trim the motor level and still keep the pickups in good water. The hose keeps cool water in the wheelbarrow that would otherwise heat up as the spent water found its way back.
It's not a permanent solution, but it'll get you out of a jam if you don't have a nose cone mask.
