New Facility Allows Mercury to Double Production of Stainless Steel Propellers ▼
FOND DU LAC, Wisc. (May 3, 2019) – Mercury Marine, the world leader in marine propulsion and technology has officially broken ground on a new 30,000 square foot addition to its propeller casting facility. When complete, Mercury’s propeller facilities total footprint will encompass 90,000 square feet. The expansion, which was officially announced during an event today, will be at Mercury’s global headquarters in Fond du Lac, will allow the company to almost double its current output for stainless steel propellers.

In total, Mercury will invest $17 million dollars to expand the propeller facility which increases the company’s overall investment to more than 1.1 billion dollars since 2008.

Since 1994, Brucato has been a recognized name in the EFI world. Tony Brucato developed the Brucato SVS, the Brucato Pro Control Unit, or “PCU”, and proprietary fuel injector cleaning and calibration technologies.

In 2005, the Brucato ACU was introduced as a more user-friendly version of the PCU, and is now known as the de facto replacement ECU for Mercury EFI engines using ProMax 'Laser' or 'horn' type injection systems (1988-2001). The Brucato ACU is a direct replacement for the Mercury ECU and has fuel curves that were developed, dialed in and perfected by Tony, himself.

A Spectacular Recovery Set In Motion by a Rigging Error ▼

In relation to boating, this is probably one of the most fascinating series of events captured on video that I have ever seen. This is an ongoing situation and I will be following up with many more details and developments. For now, have a look at what I feel is an incredible story of events.

Today I spoke with Alfred Montaner, who owns Luxury Rib Tenders, which is a company based in Miami that specializes in restoring rigid inflatable boats. His scope of talents covers seemingly every type of RIB, from yacht tenders to very high-end law enforcement types. He was taking a 36-foot Fluid 10M "Black Betty" RIB for a sea trial, which involved running the boat in the kind of conditions it was designed for. The Fluid 10M being trialed is powered by two 300HP Mercury Verado outboards, however the boat is designed to handle triple outboards, if required.

This all-original 1973 Hydrostream Vector is owned by Tim Dykstra's family, and has owned it since 1978. The boat appears to be entirely original, including the 150HP Mercury. We've seen hundreds - maybe thousands - of Hydrostreams here, but to find one this old and in this condition is fantastically rare. And, if anybody wants it, it's for sale.

LA LINEA, SPAIN (May 29, 2018) -- Mercury Marine announced today that the new 4.6-liter V-8 outboard engines it unveiled earlier this month will propel a man's quest to retrace his late grandfather's path to the world record in marathon water-skiing.

Dual Mercury Marine 300hp V-8 Verado outboards will power the Axopar 37 Sun-Top boat that will tow 36-year-old Australian water-skier, Alex Luther, as he attempts to beat the world record his grandfather, Harry Luther, set in 1970. Harry Luther's record still stands today — 5,010 kilometers (3,113 miles) covered in 10 days, 5 hours, and 36 minutes. In announcing his selection of the new Mercury Verado to power the Axopartow boat, Luther alluded to the engine's large 4.6-liter V-8 quad-cam powerhead coupled with state-of-the-art engineering that makes the engine lighter, faster and more fuel-efficient than even its closest V 6 competitor.

Company Invests Close to $10 Million In New Noise, Vibration, Harshness Facility ▼

FOND DU LAC, Wisc. (April 5, 2018) – Mercury Marine has officially broken ground on a new expansion at its global headquarters in Fond du Lac. The two-story NVH (Noise, Vibration, Harshness) facility’s first chamber, and the office space is scheduled to be completed by October 2018 while the second chamber is targeted to be completed by the end of the year. The $10 million investment will add close to 20,000 additional square feet to the more than 2.5 million square-foot campus. With this latest expansion, Mercury has now invested more than $800 million since 2009 in expansion and R&D with most of the work again being outsourced to Wisconsin-based companies. Wednesday's event was attended by members of the Mercury team, community leaders and many of the partners who are working on the project.

Impressive On-Water Displays Highlight Miami Boat Show▼

I will admit, the previous years at the Miami International Boat Show were not as impressive as what I saw ten years ago. The industry had been affected by the downturn in the economy, and it certainly showed. That's not to say that the products introduced during the past few years were anything less than impressive, but it was the overall energy of the show that had been toned down. The attendance seemed to lighten up, and the on-water display of boats and engines seemed to reflect that. There were incredible boats as always, but just not as many. Well, this year it was different.

Charles D. Strang, Jr., Father of the Stern Drive, dies at 96 ▼
FOND DU LAC, Wis. (March 13, 2018) – Mercury Marine is saddened by the death of Charles “Charlie” Strang who served as Carl Kiekhaefer’s top engineer for 13 years at Mercury Marine. After leaving Mercury, he served as Director of Outboard Marine Engineering (OMC) and later CEO and Chairman of the Board. Strang, 96, was also known as the creator of the sterndrive engine, sketching the first sterndrive in 1948 while attending MIT. Strang’s mother, Ann, is responsible for the famous Mercury Phantom Black engine color.

An Easy and Fast Modification For Mercury Engines▼

Chris Carson’s Marine is adding several new products to compliment our reed valves and spacer kits, focusing on the small block V6 Mercury engines.

This is an inexpensive modification that can easily be performed while changing the reeds, with no added strain on the engine and no penalty to long-term reliability.
