• Mercury Marine Breaks Ground on a Major Expansion to its Propeller Facility

New Facility Allows Mercury to Double Production of Stainless Steel Propellers
FOND DU LAC, Wisc. (May 3, 2019) – Mercury Marine, the world leader in marine propulsion and technology has officially broken ground on a new 30,000 square foot addition to its propeller casting facility. When complete, Mercury’s propeller facilities total footprint will encompass 90,000 square feet. The expansion, which was officially announced during an event today, will be at Mercury’s global headquarters in Fond du Lac, will allow the company to almost double its current output for stainless steel propellers.

In total, Mercury will invest $17 million dollars to expand the propeller facility which increases the company’s overall investment to more than 1.1 billion dollars since 2008.

“The market growth in high horsepower 4-stroke outboards plus the market reception to Mercury’s new V6 and V8 outboards has driven an unprecedented increase in demand for stainless steel propellers,” said Dirk Bjornstad, Mercury Marine Propellers general manager. “This capital expansion will align the propeller business with our increased growth as well as position the business to gain additional market share with new best in class propeller designs.”

Mercury remains the global leader in outboard and sterndrive propeller production, both in aluminum and stainless-steel production and product performance, producing more than 400 different propellers for a wide variety of boat applications.

“Growing our operations in Fond du Lac not only shows our commitment to our global customers but our commitment to growth in the community,” said Bjornstad. “This expansion will also allow us the opportunity to improve on our best-in-class sustainability at the plant. Mercury consistently sets a new benchmark in energy and water consumption and both of those will be a major focus in our manufacturing processes.”

They stopped producing props that weren’t selling, the exact opposite of the popular designation. What’s popular among a few hundred enthusiasts is much different than how well a product is selling in the larger market.

Mercury and mercury racing are strong . The choice to stop production of propellers that are no longer selling was just a sensible decision . I can’t remember the last time anyone ask me to get them one . Hf...

But they have the ability to make an over the hub chopper or ET. They could cut one on customer request if they wanted. But used ones are plentiful and cheap. Choppers for the Tower of Power are getting really difficult to find or so I have read.
