• Tanner Park, Long Island Boating by KAOS Imagery

The old guard at this website will remember that Tanner Park in Copiague, Long Island was the quite literally the birth place of Scream And Fly. Back in the mid-1990s, many of us would converge on Tanner Park for the Wednesday night runs. When the high tide was timed right for the late afternoon on those days, there could be fifty or more boats there. We all launched our boats as fast as we could, then everybody would meet out in the flats as others took fast runs past the group of boats.

During those times, most of the boats in attendance were Hydrostreams, and Scream And Fly was primarily a Hydrostream photo page, driven by the activities of the Wednesday-night boating events at Tanner Park.

I was in college back then, and no matter how much homework I had, I made sure I was at Tanner Park. Wednesday nights became the nucleus of all that I looked forward to. I also remember seeing my first STV up-close at Tanner Park - and this particular STV Pro Comp is now owned by Brett Freitag, the son of one of the founders of Scream And Fly, Helmut Freitag. And also one of the very best boat pilots I've ever known.

Tanner Park is seeing somewhat of a revival again, and Kent Smith of KAOS Imagery visited Tanner Park to shoot photos of the action this past Sunday. Kent has been shooting photos of boating events for years, and being a boater himself, he knows how to capture photos that best represent what performance boating is to us, and why we were are forever drawn to it.

Wednesdays at Tanner were absolutely awesome! Getting out of work, jumping in the boat and getting to Copiague as fast as possible. Depending on the tide I had to real careful running in the S-cut. Photos by Maureen are still some of the best pics of my boat. Kevin used a pic from Tanner as an ad for Progression.

When I come up to New York this summer I need to shoot photos of all of you - also, I want to get photos of Progressions for Kevin. I really want to update their Facebook page.

Interesting how the person who supplied the original high-quality/high-speed boat shots isn't even mentioned here. This is as distasteful as that fake fight you once setup with a friend expecting I'd jump into it against you. To ignore a man is one thing, to disregard his existence and beneficial fruits is another Greg. Anybody can see that it's fair to acknowledge the fact that 100's of film-photos were shot and developed just South of Tanner Park to capture images nobody else was at that time/place, and at least mention the name of the one who gave you the photos that launched your website. I shouldn't need to mention this 20yrs later Greg.

Late reply, but I just spotted this. Better late than never, I suppose.
Kent Smith is very clearly credited with the images in the article. You probably didn't read it.
