Many of you have probably seen the models that Maquetas Lanchas Pagliettini creates for his company, MLP Replicas, which creates small replicas of the boats owned by customers. The first MLP model I saw was a HydroStream V-King that looked so close to a real boat in detail that I was immediately astonished. I'm sure you can understand how quickly that caught my attention The level of detail and variety of model boats he has created is truly impressive.

Everybody on Scream And Fly has known 'The Wildman' Randy Corson from this site's very beginning over twenty years ago for his incredible custom paint and rigging work on the Liberator boats he creates and sells. As a Liberator boats dealer in Florida, Randy orders his boats as plain white hulls, then goes to work performing all of the painting and rigging by himself. This boat's matching interior is made by Premier Performance Interiors in Sarasota, FL.

I moved from New York to Florida in 2003, and as you might imagine, I was suddenly in a completely different world. I absolutely loved it - the weather, palm trees, clear waters, and most of all, the concentration of some of the fastest boats in the country. That was a big change for me in many ways, and Andy Frost's recent passing has me reflecting on his impact on my life and on this website.

Powerboat Drag Racing With A Focus on Accessibility and Safety ▼

When I began Scream And Fly over 20 years ago, I knew nearly nothing about powerboat drag racing and most especially, outboard-powered drag boats. I thought it was essentially a powerboat version of car drag racing, and there might be little else to distinguish them in terms of the experience of seeing and racing in outboard powerboat drag races. That notion was abruptly put to rest when I attended my first organized drag boat races, which was the Outboard Drag Boat Association World Championship races at Jasper, Tennessee in 2002.

Over the years we've seen many rare and historic boats pass through our Buy and Sell Marketplace, and for the STV enthusiasts, this is one for you.

This beautiful, restored and extremely rare STV tunnel-vee is owned by Jim Kay and is powered by a SportMaster-equipped Mercury Racing 300XS. The design of this hull is very reminiscent of a HydroStream YT, though this boat is larger, being 20-feet. Reportedly, six were produced, and two of those were factory-made stern-drive models.

It's That Time Again! ▼

It seems to have become a tradition to give away a Fire TV during the holidays, so here we go again! I use my Fire TV every day, and during the COVID solitary confinement, it has helped a great deal. So I will be giving away the new 2020 version of the Fire TV Stick with Alexa remote. I don't think anybody is sure how long COVID will continue to be a big concern, so maybe this device will make any future lockdowns a bit easier.

HydroStream V-King Returns to Metalflake Glory!▼

Classic HydroStream boats are all old now, and most of them are at a point where they need serious restoration to bring them back to their original state of glory. Like any restoration of a classic vehicle, the result is truly a statement of the talent and resourcefulness of the restorers.

I don't think anybody here that knows Ronnie Holzmacher knows how incredible these photos will be. I've known Ronnie over 20 years and I'm always amazed by his work, and being that he did his magic on a HydroStream, that made me pretty excited. Brian Carhart replaced the floor and stringers, and I hope Brian and Ronnie will jump in here with more details. When was the last time you saw metalflake that awesome? I just love metalflake!

Evinrude's 1932 catalog is particularly large and comprehensive, and in my opinion, one of the most interesting and detailed in their early history. The product range covers the Sportwin 4HP up to the four-cylinder 36HP Speedifour.

In 1932, a four-cylinder production outboard engine making that much power was state-of-the-art in marine technology. Just as interesting to me is their Propello-Vacuum cooling system, which utilized hollow cavities in the propeller to create suction that pulled water into the lower unit and through the engine for cooling. Not counting the propeller, the system had no moving parts. But of course, this system could only function on an engine that had no neutral or reverse gearshift. Once again, keeping in mind that this was almost 90 years ago, options such as a pressurized fuel primer and compression relief for easier starting were impressive on a consumer product.

The recent passing of HydroStream creator Howard Pipkorn represented a tremendous loss of not only a man that defined an entire culture of performance boat enthusiasts, but a person that cared a great deal for the people that remain loyal to HydroStream boats decades after the company shut its doors.

Major product launches are huge affairs, often resembling a stage show at an arena rock concert. They have to be, in order to achieve the maximum impact, leaving members of the press feeling not only positively impressed, but exhilarated. However, no matter how impressive the press event, if the star of the show - the product being introduced - does not match or even exceed the buildup of excitement, the entire experience falls flat, and that's not the impression that any manufacturer wants to leave in the minds of the boating industry press.
