I have a 1986 stv with the mod v hull. When I bought the boat there was a hook on the pad. When I hit above 50 the bow drops and the boat starts to chime walk. I have tried different jackplates and raising and lowering the motor and this does nothing. I was wondering if taking this hook off would help without making the ride worse. Any suggestions would be appreciated. Thanks

Need more info ! Maybe tell us where ya located and local experienced STV nut could look at the setup and make suggestions. My 1995 STV had a little hook too but it sure ran like hell after I got the hang of it. hf...

My location is near Milwaukee WI. My friend has a laser LTV with the same bottom, but no hook and he runs good.
with the v as the centerpod !! If its just a slight hook, thats how the boats desighned, DO NOT remove this hook or your boat will stay wet at the back !!! If the hook is very pronounced its probably not normal, mine has a hook but its just a slight taper, thats it cyu

Maybe T Rex can help you with that. A lot of his blown powerheads have happened on LTV's.

I live in Menomonee Falls. I would be happy to take a look at that rig and see what we can dig up.
I love those early STVs!!!

Your Stv is very similar to a LTV but at the same time quite diff. aswell, The LTV has a deeper bottom and has a 11-1/2 inch wide pad while the STV Sprint bottom has a shallower bottom and a 91/2 inch wide pad and is longer! The setup between the 2 boats will be no-where near the same! I run a 4 " setback on mine, The boat rides VERY flat and does not like to fly with the bow up like a Laser LTV does or the newer stv's doo!! Your boat laying down in the front is normal except for the chinewalking, I have never had that happen !! Another thing I know about the Sprint is if you try and fly the boat you can get in trouble real quik, the boat likes to ride flat, the faster yoiu go the flatter it gets, when you try and fly it , It will trim up and up and up (without bow rising) and all the sudden you'll be looking at the sky or the guy behind you upside down:eek: Cleavers and roundears work well on this boat ! If it has a 2.5 expect to see well over 100mph CYU TUG "Easy on the trim switch)
