Has anyone heard of the Nanaimo Bathtub races in the Straits of Georgia in Nanaimo B.C.? They make little boats that originally started out as bathtubs, put 10 - 15 hp motors on them and race on a 36 mile course in the open water. Pretty sweat stuff. Check it out at www.bathtub.island.net/index.php this would be an absoluts blast.

The Straits of Georgia can get pretty hairy. I have benn turned around by 15 foot waves in our 50' yacht that cruises 10 knots. I think they sink a pretty good number of them.

From another thread:
Last weekend we had the annual bath tub races at Pitt Lake Vancouver B.C. most of the tubs were 9.9's and running around 30 but one hade a light girl 80lbs and gps speed of 45. We had 9 tubs 3 sank due to run out of gas, engine problem other mech. problems.I finished 4th and was half full of water on my way in. these boats don't float with a person in them and mine doesn't float by it's self it rolls fill's up and bob's with 3 inches .But lot's of fun.

It is pretty cool how much time some to the guys put into their bathtub raceboats. Just like any other racers, they make them as light as possible and run the maximum power allowed. All boats must have a real bathtub to be legal. I have seen them on tv, but I might go to the races this year.
