I bought a 14' fiberglass boat . I was told it was a "Kennedy", which it is not. I have no way of posting a picture of it, and was hoping any of you with a 14' boat would post pics if possible. Boat has a clipper bow, large flare at front 5'. The deck is almost perfectly flat with a kick up wind deflector(square shaped, not like a 80's sidewinder). It looks like it could be based off a checkmate, kennedy, baja, etc. Thanks to anyone that can help me find info on this boat!

Try figuring it out by the Hull ID Number (HIN). Maybe someone will know the lineage. Check out.

The gel on the boat has been redone, and there is no longer any hull number. Thanks for the info though. It may come in handy one day:)

Where are you from? Kennedy was the name of a guy who was splashing checkmates among other things here. Does it look at all like this boat? Last I've seen/heard of him, he was operating out of Markham as "Stelray" boats.

THANKS, 10.5' tunnel!!!!!!! That looks exactly like my boat. I can't read the info on it. Is there any way you could enlarge the picture, or just write out the info. I think the one in the picture says it is a 16' boat? I would like the specs on the 14' model if possible. If anyone has had experience with this hulls performance, please post. Again, THANKS I've been trying to find out about this hull for 8 years!!!!!:) :) My hull has a balsa cored hull and a foam cored deck. Does anyone know if Stelray did cores, or if this is an original CHECKMATE??

PS two questions (to anyone),
Looking for a used fin ("J-Craft" style) for our project hull...any thoughts or direction as per how & where,

Was given a 15' Fibretron, never mounted, but required new floor & transum. Hull/deck now split open, floor/transum removed. Intending on installing 2 wood stringer (never had any), H.D. transum, Jack plate, ...hopefully 120-150 hp. Can't find any info on this boat. Any assistance would be greatly appreciated.

Thanks for the info guys! I've already recored the hull, put in a new beefed up transom, added transom knees, and designed a new floor to lower the center of gravity( I'm setting it up for center steering). Any information on the MX-14 would be greatly appriciated. I'm not sure if the 1970 MX-14 still used the same hull or not? I know from pictures the deck was different. Please give me suggestions for set-up of rigging if you have experience with this hull(i.e. "MX-14").:)

no pictures yet. I have to figure out some way to post them at some point. Right now I'm in the middle of blueprinting the hull.

Well does the boat have a pad? If so, I would think its an mx.

I had one of those when I was younger. I had the 14', green metalflake, with a early seventies Merc blue stripe 150 shortshaft(15"). The metalflake was coming thru the Gelcoat, so I sprayed it with clear coat to try to make it shine better. Did 74 m.p.h. with two-blade stainless 26" BP Merc prop. Has a round vee-bottom, no pad of any kind. Late sixties the pad bottoms were only used by Allison. Hydrostream was just about to build their first pad bottom taylored after a couple wood pad-bottom Hauptner-Craft race boats out of Palm Beach Gardens, Fl., which was their 14'. Jim Hauptner & Howard Pipkorn were friends/rivals at the time. From that boat I went on to the later early seventies MX-13 & MX-15 pad bottom Checkmates. The 15' was a rare, red/white/blue, lightweight Checkmate factory race boat, which I put a 135 BP stacker on. Later had a 17' MX with center-steering & a 200 Merc, 30" Merc Hi-Performance Cleaver prop, which did 80 mph. Ahhh...those were the days...M/C

I Had A 1970 Mx-14 That I Used To Race With A Short 140 Merc On It.it Was A Light Center Seat Race Hull. A Guy Up Around Peterborough Has It Now. I Will Post Pics When I Get Home.

The Early Mx's Had A Rounded Keel(no Pad). I Think 1971 Is The Year They Went To The Pad. I Have A 1973 Mx-16 That Is Just About Ready To Hit The Water Again And It Has A Pad Bottom. My Mx 14 Was A 1970 Model And It Was Probably One Of The Hardest Boats To Drive Fast That I Have Ever Owned. You're Right, Those Were Fun Days!

Thats some good info. I thought that 71' was the first year of the mx's, and assumed they always had the pads (my 72' did). Cool pic too!

No pad. The hull has a rounded keel design. "Merc-Cruiser" how did the 14' handle? Did you run it with a 90h.p. ever? Do you know what the specs on the hull were(ie. h.p., weight, preferred set up of engine, etc.)?

"largecar91" why was it one of the hardest boats to drive fast? What h.p. did you have on it? What h.p. was the boat rated for?

"Inline Six" with your information, it seems I have a V141. There is no pad, and the hull/deck looks just like the V161. The deck is glassed to the floor on the inside of the boat. The hull is balsa core and the deck is foam core. Do you have any info on this boat. Should I put a pad on the boat? I don't care about top speed, but I do want a stable ride with good handling. Any information or specifications you have would be greatly appreciated

I had a 1972 140 Merc on it and at high speeds you had to balance the hull on a rounded keel(no pad). It took a lot of arm work to balance the boat on about an inch of rounded keel!

I would put a pad on it. I had a 161 (copy) with a 5" by 1" pad. I guess it was built by Cobra, had core, and a goofy scoop molded into the deck.

Planning to put a 85h.p. Evinrude on it. Already put a nose cone and low water pick-up on it. Thinking of adding scoops to water intakes like are available for the mercs. Center steering, so hoping it will be a fairly well balanced outfit.

If you are putting an 85 hp v-4 Rude on it, then you might as well just toss a 140 v-4 on it or build the 85. Same weight. When it was suggested about putting a 75omc on it , it was because it is a lighter engine and the boat would handle the lighter engine better.

Everything you stated is soooo true. Had the 14' rounded bottom and then moved into the MX's, then HydroStreams, etc., & know exactly what you mean...I always had the Merc RideGuide Tension/Compression steering...zero play. Those days were fun. What was the origin of the Cobra's again? Who made them? They were early Checkmate copies? I remember seeing a couple rare ones in my youth. Thanks:)
