I have one wire that comes out of the harness from the Merc OB and goes to the kill switch. The other pole of the kill switch is to ground. Simple enough, but what I neglected to do is determine if this circuit is complete or not when the motor is running. Too late now - everything is dissassembled and the old switch thrown away. Does the wire coming out of the harness have to be grounded for the motor to tun or does grounding this wire stop the motor?

Thanks....TJ

Depends if it is a coil or magneto ignition. A magneto ignition has to be shorted to ground to disable it, otherwise it is live - like a lawn mower. A coil (battery) ignition circuit has to be opened to disable it. The kill switch I bought from Rickracer has both normally open and normally closed terminals.

Not sure if it's coil or magneto - the motor is a 99 ProMax 300.

It will be a battery (coil) ignition. Magnetos are only usually on motors with no battery, like small, pull start motors. Magnetos generate their own power.

Before hooking up and applying power I would check a factory service manual.
