Well guys, I think I'm gettin' me a Hydrostream HST. I'm told it's the Mod VP hull(800lbs). I'll be hanging a 2.4/200 w/stock gearcase and Bob's nosecone w/LWP's on this hull. I have a CMC(?)hydraulic jackplate as well. I wanna go fast but will occaisionally pull skiers. How much setback do I need, and what wheel(s) are recommended for pulling skiers/top end? How far above/below the pad should the propshaft be for best performance. What kind of top end will I see? I understand the boat to be quite stable at high speeds, but coming off plane after a speed run can be a challenge, yes? Are there any other handling challenges I need to be aware of? Anybody know where I can get a windshield for this thing? Hull is in pristine condition. Hull is currently center steering, was originally RH steering. I'd like to switch it back to RH steering, should I? Any help would be appreciated.

An HST at 800#? Who told you that? I think my V-King was 740#. I've got the CMC hydraulic and still going to have a 12" made for the Sleekcraft. You might want one too. But the HST owners will be able to set you straight.

I do like the looks. Awhile back there was one for $3500 in the Northeast somewhere. Good luck w/ the buy, but don't believe the salesman/owner on that weight.

Go to IHR at http://www.hydrostream.org at http://www.hydrostream.org/Specific%20Models/HST.htm I wrote that article and it will give you a good start on your questions. If you want to really get into it send me an e-mail and I will give you some phone #'s and we can talk. There are a lot of variables to discuss before you get answers that may lead you into the wrong direction. Props, engine height, setback, etc. As far as the 800# goes, it could be but it would have to be one that laid up as a race only model. The production HST's came out closer to 950# to 1000#. They are pigs when it comes to flying the bow. It can be done but you need a mile of setback. I am running 16" total right now and I know guys that ran as much as 17 1/2". There is also a good article that Dock Boy did on setback here under departments at http://www.screamandfly.com/screamandfly/setback.htm There is a picture of the 8” static bracket I built for mine there. I would glad to help, give me an E-mail and we can talk.
