Always had an s-10 but now am looking to upgrade, don't want a full size cause I use it for work and 12-15 mpg is just too much. Looking at the Colorodo's. anyone have one?

My freind has one with the 3.5 and pulls a 18 foot stratos with it. He said it is fine around town, he lives in Eufala, but said he wouldn't want to tow the boat longer distances with it.

I think he gets around 22 to 25 or so on the road. His is auto, 2 wheel drive.

Why not look into the Frontier or Tacoma, both have more power, and an extra cylinder.

Gary a guy here in Ky tows a 21' liberator with his. He says it does a great job. He says he doesn't have any problems pulling the boat out of any steep ramps.

The Frontier is a Nissan, and you must have had a lemon toyota, I love my tundra, if only it had more room.

The 3.5 is the 5 cylinder engine. It did not rate well in the Car and Driver test of midsize trucks either. The Nissan is a Hoss too, like 260 horsepower or something like that.

My brother now works for a Nissan dealership after many years of a Chevy dealer, I believe he has been cut out of a large inheritance!;) . I'll look into the Frontier. I used to love my s-10, put 240k on the vortec v-6 and it is still running today, Only problem was the blue paint fell off, down to the primer, but it was a work truck anyways. I towed my Allison all over the country and still got 19 mpg while towing, then they change to the colorodo, put a smaller motor and reduce the towing capacity by 300 lbs:confused: . Now I have 2 kids and am planning on replacing the pop up with another camper and want a truck to haul 4 people, may break down and get a full size??

the nissan is weak, It has 260hp and feels like 190. you gotta push it past 3500rpm to make any TQ and the brakes are weak, I had a 2000 frontier and could have gotten a helluva deal on a 2005 NISMO. the colorado is the same deal no balls before 3500, I-5 is a bastard design to begin with. with no load a standard cab colorado/5 speed will haul ass, but put any weight in it and its a dog. If you are going to buy new, I advise you to wait till the 2007 silverado is introduced. 380hp and Variable valve timing (cam in block). close to 20mpg city and 26 highway.

I heard the new Silverados were supposed to have a lot of power and torque increase this year.....Vortec MAXX right 1 Bad? Supposed to be bad ass, We'll see. I still think they should put the 5.3 in the Colorados. Hell, Dodge does the V-8 thing w/ the Dakota & Durango. Only one problem with that....I could never own a Dudge!

Kinda... the MAXX is the HO out of the Silverado SS thats you can get in a EX cab truck. Its more of a selling point for the 06. the 2007 silvy is going to have an LS7 (new 427vette) based 6.3L with Cam-in-block Variable Valve Timing  I think a 4.8L aluminum block/head motor would be awesome in the colorado, and only about 100lbs heavier than the i-5.

From my experience with the bigger brother to the Colorado engine (4.2L I6 offered in the GMT-360 platform of TrailBlazers, Envoy, Bravads, etc) is that is tows much better than the 4.3L V6 I used to have in my 96 Jimmy. It is true you have to rev it a little more to start making more torque, but the power curve is linear and it pulls really hard all the way up to the 6300RPM redline. I think something like 90% of the power is available from like 2800rpms to like 5800rpms. I get about 11-12mpg going 70 up the 2500ft pass in WA (Snoqualmie Pass) from Seattle to Coeur 'd Alene, ID and have to fillup after about 250-280mi. Unfortunately, since my TB is an 02, I have the smallest fuel tank, the newer ones have an extra 3.5gal capacity so the tank is 22gal, so that really helps them go a lot longer.

But, back to the Colorado, I think the 3.5L I5 would be fine if you only needed to tow less than about 3000-3500lbs. Anything more and you are better off getting an SUV or a fullsize truck.
