What's the down side of swaping out 1.62 gears for 1.75 gears on Merc 3 liter 300 PM?

you will probably have to spend more money on a bigger pitch prop , unless you are already down on rpm...................

Cost! It'll cost you about 1100-1200 bucks if you buy new gears and pay someone to do it for you. At least that is the price I was quoted.
What kind of boat is it on? I think your better off with the 1.62's on a bass boat, maybe a heavier rig would benefit from the 1.75's. Propping will be an issue if you can run 90-100+

It's on a Bay Boat, hull weight 1800#. I was thinking more in terms if the change in gears might have an adverse affect on the power head and or whether the fuel and ignition electronics performance specs might need to be changed.
