Hey guys! I'm new to this board, and I'm eager to get some questions answered. The first question I have is about the 335hp powerhead available from Simon Motorsports. Has anyone run this engine at all? I'd like to know how it compares to a stock Merc 300x. What is the max recommended RPM for this powerhead? Does it still behave well at idle and midrange speeds as well as at WOT? I'm glad to finally be a member!

Thanks for the reply. Does anyone else have anything to say about this powerhead?

Welcome Roughrider!!
Eric is a super guy. I've had three of his motors. He has a great reputation and is one of the top 3.0L people in the country. He does stand behind his work and you get a dyno sheet with every motor for YOUR motor. www.simonmotorsports.com
Eric is a 3.0L god. They will smoke a 300X. Give him a call.

I Just Got One. Only Have About 5 Hrs In The Water With It So Far But It Is An Animal!! It Idles Perfect, And Runs Like A Scalded Dog. Dont Have Any Experience With A 300x. And As Everybody Has Already Stated, You Wont Find A Better Guy To Deal With.

I have 2 of them and I would take them over a 300X any day. Call Eric. His work is top notch. You won't disapointed...

Thanks a lot! That's exactly what I wanted to hear.:)
Just curious how do the Simon's compare to say the 250xs or the 300x in fuel consumption. I know my 250xs's as long as you stay away from WOT get fantastic fuel economy compared to my old 98 300promax's.
Can Eric build the 250xs's opti's to make the 335hp or does it have to be a EFI motor? Anyone know?
I'm looking to repower soon (my warranty just ran out) with either newer 250xs's or maybe Mercs new HP motor their unveiling at the Miami boat show, but would consider Eric's 335 high performance build as a alternative since all I have heard was good things about his motors.

I remember reading another thread about this. The answer is no and i also remember reading about simon/brucato developing something for the optimax engines.
Thanks Supa,
Just called Simon's today and asked the man himself, I had lots of questions and Eric answered everyone.
I can see why Eric has such a good rep, he actually takes the time to talk to people about his products.
At this point I am leaning very strongly towards purchasing a couple of his 335hp motors early in the spring when I'm ready to repower.
...The only question I forgot to ask was at what rpm the motor makes that horsepower

I try to keep mine around 6300-6500 rpm. You can't even compare a stock 300pm with Simons motor. It's more than just the hp. It's everything in between.

Hey Guys, I had Eric Simon build my blown 225EFI into a 335hp piece of Art.
I spent a lot of time on the phone with Eric debating which way to go with rebuilding, and for the difference in pricing in the long term, I couln't go wrong with the 335. It is an awesome motor compared to my 225 that ran hard and pushed my 22' Ranger Bass Boat to almost 68mph GPS. I am still breaking it in for a few more hours, but I expect to see Mid-upper 70's now. I took my boat to Eric, which for me was a 1300mile round trip, but it was well worth the drive. He took the time to go over everything he was going to do, and showed me all the components my new powerhead was going to have. I have the utmost respect for this man, he took the time and effort to bring my boat to me on his way to Washington, saving me a 2 day trip and about $500. His work is top notch and you won't be disappointed if you go this route. I would highly recommend the 335!
A bud of mine just got a simon 335 today and it should be installed and running this evening. We have identical bassboats and i'm running a 300x.My best speed to date has benn 105.1 with many runs over 104+.Should be a very good comparison and we should know in a few days.
